Bianchi Campione?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bianchi Campione?

I found a 2000 campione on ebay for $450 and I'm wondering if this is a good deal. I'm not a racer per se but ride about 80 miles/week for exercise, maybe more in the future. I want to upgrade my 1984 peugeot with carbolite 103 and like the idea of having the shifters on the brake levers. I had read that the campione was mostly for racing but the ergos would be more comfortable on longer rides. I don't know if that difference is significant though. Thanks!

It's a good deal. The campione is their entry-level steel racer, but was using the same Reparto Corse frame as the Veloce that year I believe. Deda tubing. Campy. Classic.

As long as it fits you it will be a very comfortable and very nice riding bike. I've never ridden mirage but have had great experiences with other campy groupsets.

A good deal? It sounds ok but without seeing the condition of it impossible to tell. It could go from very good deal to very bad deal in a heartbeat.

Buy it Now.
I bought my 1998 for around $400. I love it.
I've since changed out everything on it.

I bought a 2000 Campione off of Ebay and I rode it for a couple of weeks. I loved the feel. I am currently reworking the entire bike and I am very close to being finished. The componets are slightly on the lower scale of Campy, but still work well (Veloce and Mirage mix). I don't think you can go wrong. Bite the bullet and join the celeste army.

Thanks for the input. It needs a new seat and handlebar tape but looks okay otherwise. I went ahead and got it!!!

I am currently riding my 2000 or 2001 campione as a rain bike. The frame says reparto corse and tubing sticker says something like chromo lite on it. Made in Italy label on the front. Is this frame worth upgrading to a threadless headset and full veloce or centaur?

sorry to hijack this thread.

I have a Campione from the same period. Do you like the way the bike rides? I tried to do my research on the frame. Your bike is a Reparto Corse (Race Department) bike and was handmade in Italy (I think 2001 was the last year that this happened) the frame is the same one shared with at least with one other higher priced bike(better components). In my research, I can't figure out if the tubing is Reynolds 531 or 525. Does your specify?

I bought mine explicitly for a rain bike and it has grown into its own project bike. I bought a Chris King Threadless, cf fork and a new veloce grouppo. I sold the original mix of veloce and mirage components n ebay for $250. I sold the stem for $15, handlebars for $22, and the seat post for $16. I have had a lot of fun and I think I will be finished within a week with everything. I wanted an Italian steel bike. I like the ride and to me, the investment was worth it. If you like the way the bike rides, why not?

Apologies to the OP.

Ive been riding this bike for 5 years now so I think it is safe to say I like the way it rides. Now that I have 2 other bikes I feel like I can afford to attempt my first ever rebuild but I didnt want to sink too much money into something that might not be worth it. I see your point and agree with you.

Mine doesnt say anything about the tubing either.

I firmly believe that it is the Reynolds 525 Cro-Moly tubing. Again, your frame is a handmade Italian bike. . . that's ok in my book. Watch out for pics of my Bianchi in the next two weeks (The painter promised me that he would ship it by the 29th).

I bought it with the stock Campy Mirage components and salty/rusty spots (I think the
owner used it on a trainer). I had the rust cleaned up and the paint touched up.
I couldn't pass up the the bike since it was my size and was made in Italy.

Pretty much all the components on it have been replaced.

I wonder if the Chromo-Lite frames are any lighter than the Dedaccai Zero Tres tubed frames. My 51cm bare frame weighs 4lbs.

That's just beautiful, and I love the upgrades. Why'd you ditch the Campy, though?

Thanks pigmode and the_beef.
The old campy stuff was low-end 8 speed components (Mirage) so I
transferred the Ultegra over from my other bike. I wouldn't mind making
this bike Campy equipped someday again.

Mine is a mirage/veloce 9 speed. Is it possible to upgrade it to 10 speed centaur? I dont know much about this stuff yet.

I am inspired by your bike BlastRadius

It's not Reynolds.

"Bianchi Chromo Lite" is actually Dedacciai tubing. I e-mailed Bianchi about this.

Bianchi often uses Dedacciai, and yes, the frame is made at the RC.

Thanks for the advice guys. I got the bike and I love it. Hardly a scratch on it. Can't wait to upgrade to clipless pedals.
