found a lump you know where
two years ago i found one in the same place and the doctor informed me it was an infection most likely from riding the bike so much. last year i wasnt on the bike nearly as much due to other medical complications. this year ive been in the saddle almost every day. commuting to work and joining a local racing club.
um, yeah, has anyone gotten a lump down there and been told its an infection? im almost certain the doctor told me it was an infected gland that was from pessure and constant irritation. in addition, im not the best at keeping my shorts clean
anyone want to pay for my doctors visit?

Personally...if it were me...I would get a 2nd if not 3rd opinion immediately and taper off my riding to see if things improve down there.
Do a lot of reading on the web but by all means get different professional opinions.
What you describe is every males biggest fear.
Best of Luck,
George

assuming it is just a saddle sore gone bad (and nothing more serious), nothing works better than sitting in
a shallow tub of VERY salty, warm water for at least 10 mins

No lump here, but a twinging, occaisional pain. Had it checked out, and the doc said it was an infection. One course of antibiotics later, and it hasn't been back.

If its an infection the area should be red and painful. Could be an abscess but I seriously doubt its a swollen lymph node based on its location. There are several inguinal(groin) lymph nodes but they are further anterior and you certainly couldn't sit on them. A simple ingrown hair can become an abscess or progress to cellulits pretty quickly.

If you get scar tissue it can cause further pressure when you ride. I had to change saddles to redistribute the pressure. Keep yourself very clean to avoid infected folicles. Always ride in clean shorts/undies.
I treat any infected folicles with tea tree oil, it is a wide spectrum antseptic with no side effects or irritants.

That being said, without actually laying eyes on this lump and feeling it, I really can't give you a fully informed opinion, and I would hope that you wouldn't gamble with your health getting advice from anonymous posters. See your doctor, and if you're not happy with their opinion or if it's not getting better, see another one. No point taking risks with this stuff.

Isn't that what happened to Armstrong? He had some crotch issues and the docs told him it was just saddle soreness - so he ignored it for a long time? That's what I recall reading.

+2 to Dr Pete and pathdoc. So now you have 3 docs telling you to go get it checked out.

Armstrong had an enlarged testicle. Most testicular tumors present this way. I seriously doubt the mass in question here is within the scrotum.

Men die from testicular cancer. Get checked. I had a lump in my scrotum. My doc ordered an ultrasound and it turned out to be a sebaceous cyst. Thank god.

All of a sudden, I'm a bit confused as to the lump location. If it's just down there, I personally would treat it as a saddle sore...but if it's down there, I would be at the doctor lickety-split.

Saw one of those medical oddity shows on cable. They featured an African tribesman who had a 200 lb. benign tumor in his scrotum. The tumor grew at about 10 lbs/yr over a 20 year period. His scrotum had grown to the size of a large beachball by the time the western docs saw him and removed the tumor. In order to move around he was pushing his scrotum around in a wheelbarrow in front of him.
