Keo Cleats?
 

My new pedals should be arriving next week, Keo Carbons.

They come with the Gray cleats which I believe offer 4.5 degrees of float.

What do other Keo owners ride?

FWIW, I am switching from speedplay x/5 pedals. The were not bad, and I liked the easy clip-in but I never felt totally solid out of the saddle...

Get the black ones for zero float. Float is annoying.

I use grey also and am happy with it. I fiddle with left side after 100 miles and don't have pains anymore.

I use the red with 9 degrees float. I like having the float. My last pedals were speedplay, so I got comfortable with float.

I have the Keo Carbon with the Ti spindle and I really like them a lot. I prefer the zero float pedal.

That's what I have on both my bikes (Carbon KEOs). I have about 700 miles on one set so far and I don't have any problems with them. They aren't quite as easy to clip into as the Dura-Ace SPD-SL pedals I had on my old Shimano bike but there was no way I was putting Shimano pedals on a Campy bike. :D

I also have the grey cleats and the float is just fine. I don't think I'd go any higher than 4.5 degrees.

It's a very solid pedal out of the saddle. I've never really ridden a pedal that wasn't though...never had Speedplays.

save your knees, get some float. i use the red(9) but just recently got a set of gray(4.5) and will be trying them out. if you go with no float your shoes better be adjusted just right or knee problems are coming your way.

I'm definately not going with the no float cleats...

My 2 choices were red and gray (9 and 4.5 degrees)

I have 900 miles on the grey cleats that I have a like them a lot. I moved to KEO Sprints from SPDs and will never go back.

I've ridden red for years, and was afraid that the grey would be too restricitve, but I've had them for a couple months, and I like the grey cleats a lot.

But I'm told you have to be real careful with the amount of walking you do on them. Evidently, they wear down fast. (Planned obsolescence?)

I went from speedplays to keo's as well. While I liked the ease of clipping into the speedplays, getting out of them was always a PITA for me. Love the keo's with regards to clipping out of them. The pedals I bought came with both the grey 4.5 degree & red 9 degree cleats. I set up the grey ones, and they have just enough float to keep my knees happy.

I ride grey cleats and I love them. The Keos are SOOOOOOO much better than the SPD type I switched from.

Either the cleats wear out, or your pedal does. It's an easy choice. That being said with SPD-SL 105 level pedals for $41 shipped you can pretty much afford to get new pedals every time you need to change out your cleats.

I hace keos with red cleats. Last Sunday registration at a race took an hour. Needless to say that cut into my warm up. So I shortened all the warmup intervals to fit the time left before the start. With 15 minutes I head for the start line. Carry my bike up the stairs to the street ,take off my cleat covers , take off and miss with my right foot. Try again , it goes in but pops right out. I broke the front of my cleat off on the first try. Off the bike down the stairs, into the tool box , replace broken cleat, back up the stairs, on to the street get to the line , plenty of time. Was rather pleased that I dealt with some minor snafus and stiil made the start. Unfortunately by the third lap I was dropped and by tha last lap I was lapped. I guess my point is the wear indicators on the cleats are there for a reason. When they indicate replacement do it. Unless you want to add a spare cleat and a big honking screw driver to your Cliff bars in your pocket.

The cleats come with soft plastic covers-as long as you carry these with you and use them, the cleats should last a long time.

None of the Look cleats I ever bought came with plastic covers for them. How much and where are you buying your cleats?

My look Keo carbons came with these soft plastic cleat covers-you can walk on them without slipping or wearing the cleat. I just pop them off before the ride and carry them in my jersey.

I'm yet another rider who believes that the gray (4.5º) cleat is perfect.

Based on all of the replies I guess I will stick with the gray (4.5) cleats that come with the pedels. If I find the don't work for me I can switch later.

The good thing is that the cleats are pretty cheap (at least compared to speedplay cleats)

I got the gray cleats also. Themore I use them, the more i am beginning to like them better than my old red ones which really allowed for alot of movement. I think I actually get a better feeling of being "part of the bike", which gives me more of a warm fuzzy feeling when going down hill at 50mph, or sprinting over 30mph.

this may seem weird, but i'm thinking of combining cleats. i ride the grey 4.5 degree float ones, but my right foot just flops around with all that play. the left foot is fine. i'm thinking of putting the zero float cleat on the right shoe

around here at least, the grey c ome with covers, the red for whatever reason do not
