Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First BF Pedal Force QS2-S Build!

Not in a long typing mood, because it's time to go ride, so I'll let the pics speak for themselves.

Mike Garcia wheels (velocity aerohead red rims, wheelsmith XE/AE aero spokes, speedcific serenity hubs)
Ultegra goodstuff
Ritchey WCS stem
Deda Magic Bars
Pedal Force QS2-S Frame
Easton EC90 SL straight fork
FSA SLK carbon compact crank
Tacx Tao cages
Polar CS200cad
Conti Attack/Force tires
Other stuff you can see for yourself.

Consider this my official OCP application. It's not 100% done in any of these pics, but I was way too meticulous. The headset logo is lined up with the bars, the logo on the tires is lined up with the valves. (And the yellow text and flags on the tires are colored in with black sharpie professional). There's a lot of other spastic attention to detail but I just want to ride!
Enjoy! I know I do!

As you can see, there was a conflict of interest during the build...

And the selection of toys

Edit:

The bike wasn't done in any of these, a few small things left, but I'm out the door!

Why the straight fork vs. curved?

I think Nims already had the EC-90 fork, so he just got the frame and seatpost from PF. Is that right?

My wifes frame came with a nice curved fork that I will paint to match.

Nims, have you taken it out for a spin yet? (Or, still building?) Any first hand impressions?

P.S. OCP status approved.

I didn't already have the fork, it was part of the PF build. It was only a few dollars more than the PF fork so I picked it because it was such a deal (like so many of the other components). Same reason I chose a Dura-Ace chain. It was more of a "why not?" decision.

I just got out of the shower from my first ride. All I can say is wow. The sprinting is just unreal. It's both stiffer and lighter than anything else I've ever ridden. I don't have a single complaint.

I'll be doing my first real ride with it tomorrow morning and I'll report back after that.

Where do I get my OCP badge? P.S. Even my Bell Sweep R is black/red/white and my club jersey even matches

haha, you really took the "wind in your hair" motto to the limit with that last pic of the convertible s2k, motorbike and road bike! As for the bike, it looks sharp, the red rims look sweet on that naked cf frame.
and thats an aliante saddle right?

Nice!!! One piece of advice that I found with the PF solid carbon seat stem. Get it tight and don't be afraid of wrenching it a little. Mine came loose twice during rides and I found rocking back and forth to cause it during my rides. I really wrenched it the last time but not to excess and it has held fine up a 4000 ft. climb to the base of Mount Pisgah.

Your turn allez!

Very nice looking bike. The blank frame looks very cool without all those decals.

Also nice choice in clubs
Did you race at the Cyclovets Omnium? The bike looks very familiar.....

I was at the omnium, but the bike wasn't finished yet. Yesterday's club ride was the first public appearance.

Oh, probably just my brain playing tricks on me because I didn't go to the ride yesterday because I was in La Mirada. What category did you race the Omnium in?

Cat 5. I've only been riding an actual road bike for about a month.

Back to the bike, I did about 5000 ft of climbing yesterday on a ~42 mile ride and MAN! this bike can climb! Now if only I could...

According to PF's build calculator, it's low 15lbs. That's including everything but bottle cages, computer and pedals. I wasn't focused solely on weight, I chose components based on many factors and let the weight end up where it may. I continue to be quite happy with this bike.

Holy Crap!

Nice bike, wheels, etc. I like the straight fork on newer bikes and curved ones on older (ie, lugged steel) bikes.

From that 1st pic, it looks like you know a thing or two about good beer too!
