Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

time for a new ride...

so, it's time to get a new bike (fyi, mine was broken in half during an accident) and i have two choices...ONE, the Trek 1000, with sora shifters. what i hear is a pretty good carbon fork. and an O.K frame. $700. choice TWO, the Trek 1500, with ultegra shifters. nicer wheels and a carbon fork. a better frame. lighter? $1200. oh, and i'd be able to get the 1000 sooner...cash flo Please, if anyone else can suggest a nice bike not unlike these you might prefer, lay it down. I would've checked the Under $700 thread, but i don't want to spend less than $700. peace.

I'd say save up, for you might not settle wih the subpar 1000 if you happen to be considering a better model. While still a good bike, chances are, you would kick your self for it later, especially after you start upgrading the 1000, or even sell it, minus depreciation, to upgrade later. I had bought the 1500 rode i for a week upgraded some 105 parts to utegra, and sold it just because i really wanted a carbon trek(5200 was a dream bike) or cervelo, so i was not able to enjoy the 1500 thourghly. Thus im still saving, and ride a cheap track bike til i save up for the road bike i really want.

On the otherhand, if you really want to start riding asap, get the 1000, for all we know, you might fall in love with it the way it is, and you can then enjoy the sport of cyling in the cycling season, but if you have the patience,....wait.
