Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Landshark Opinions

I have been just looking at the Land Sharks. I guess my thought is that the extreme paint jobs are unique; but, wonder if some are a bit overdone? I like riding a quality frame; but, if I had one of those wild paint jobs would I be one of those types that just want the added attention? I once had a Cannondale CAAD 3 with the red and yellow fade. After a while, I got a bit tired of that scheme. Now, I ride a red Waterford with simple lettering on the downtube and a black Gilmour with the same simple lettering. Both are quality rides and keep up with some of the current posts, I do enjoy steel. They would be fun; but, I am not so sure the farmers around here in Kentucky would understand. Maybe I just don't get it.

Those are all custom paint jobs. When you get a LandShark you get the paint job you want. There are two in the local racing peloton and they are both green. Nothing crazy about them. Understated, but very clean and awesome looking. So go ahead and get one and have it painted John Deere style and all those farmers won't even bat an eye.

Hello OP from another Gilmour owner.

Landsharks are nice but check out Curtlo

https://www.curtlo.com/

before you buy.

I posted only because I was just curious about the paint scheme. I know you can get a John Deere color for Kentucky and truthfully, I enjoy my two rides. So, much in fact, I can't hardly decide which to ride. If I had a third, I probably would go crazy. I know that a lot of the times the frames reflect the rider and my Waterford and Gilmour both reflect my desire for a quality ride; but, a little different than most. I get a lot of responses on both bikes and they are understated; but, quality. I was just thinking when I rolled up at club ride on one of those multi-colored Land Sharks, I wonder how many would mutter under their breath about the desire for attention (to compensate for my lack of ability.) How do you like your Gilmour?

John at Landshark has been known for his unique paint jobs.. The bikes are solid, usually very lightweight for steel frames. Andy Hampsten rode landsharks in the TDF Mountain stages, of course painted to be an Eddy Merckx, so they should be good enough for you..

I know they are quality bikes and yes, they would be good enough for me. I do think the unique paint jobs are beautiful; but, I guess I was just curious.

I've seen few comment by owners about the paint being fragile.

I had a Prestige Landshark that was plain grey. No stickers, no sharks, nothing except a Tange Prestige sticker on the seat tube. I sold it to a friend and after he crashed it he sent it to Landshark for repair. He told John to paint it any way he wanted, as long as it was green. It came back with different shades of green and little sharks all over. It suited my friend and he rode it for 10 years, finally replacing it a few years back. I always enjoy seeing a Landshark out on the road.

The farmers will think you're strange no matter what you ride!

Sorry, I don't get it! I have seen more professional looking paintjobs on Easter eggs! I would grow tired of those paints jobs before mt Credit card cleared. Why not buy that spray paint that turns any surface into a chalkboard and let the neighbor kids go to town.
