Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Big Fat motorcycle riders!

Is it me or do you see alot of obviously overweight folks on motorbikes when they should be on a bike? I see more and more obesity here in the US and I believe I would trade that motorized thing in for a pedal option and get in shape so you live longer!

To each their own I say but there is nothing like seeing a 350 lb. lard a$$ on a crotch rocket which reminds me of Shamu on a mini-bike!

haha, too funny. i've been noticing the same thing lately. 100 years ago, when i was zipping around on my cbr, there were no fat guys.

hip-hop music has had a detrimental effect on the sportbike scene.

I don't mind so much the fat guys...but when they put their fat girlfriends on the back...usually see more than anyone short of a proctologist should ever see. Someone could lose an eye! And I usually feel pretty bad for that poor bike. Lose the motor, get some pedals!

I don't condone judging another person for being fat, but despite myself I noticed that two portly fellows rode past me on fully decked touring harleys on my ride the other day, and that thought did cross my mind. They cruised right along, and stopped at the redlight just up ahead. Thank god there was one car infront of them, so when I stopped I didn't have to wait there next to them... I wasn't afraid of them or anything, they looked nice enough, but I got the feeling that it would have been uncomfortably silent until the light turned.

Wow. At least I'm not alone. 75% of the people I see - and there's a lot of motorcycles cruising down the beautiful place I bike - are, ahem... large.

Thought the same thing on a climb the other night as sterotypical over the hill harley guy in mullet, wifebeater, jean shorts (jorts) and beer gut drove by.
They probably think the same thing of fat roadies that can't break 14 mph on the flats.

I don't dislike people who are overwieght. But, I do dislike their lifestyle, and absolute neglect for themselves and their community. What do I mean by that? For every additional obese person in the U.S., I see part of the reason my health insurance premiums continue to increase as a result. I know this to be true. I work at a hospital, and hear the unheard complaints of all the doctors.

My neighbor down the road is so obese now (5'7", 300# female, 32yo), she has had to get both knees operated on because they can't support her weight, years of chiropractic care for lower back pain because she is overweight, borderline diabetic, high blood pressure, sleep apnia caused by obesity, and she's so heavy now, she doesn't clean her house, so it wreeks with mildew and mold, and she now has all kinds of respiratory problems.

Now, all of this adds up to massive amounts of health insurance costs, doctors visits, physical therapy, chiropractic therapy, and enough prescription drugs to kill an elephant.

And it's not just my neighbor, it's whole towns that are like this, the whole country is getting fat, by the millions. And you wonder why people get so angry they discriminate against obese people. One way, is by making them pay for two plane tickets. That's my favorite one.

most of the obese and morbidly obsese riders I see are on LOUD crusiers, don't see many on sportbikes. Most sports are meant for the 160 lb rider.
See more obese people in SUV's than motorbikes.

I love all these generalizations about motorcycle riders. I know more than a few Harley riders that also ride bicycles. I'm well over 6' and weigh 175 lbs.

And on some motorcycle forum somewhere, there are some guys talking about the ******s on thier bicycles...

Seems like someone needs to rise above it a little and quit worrying about what everyone else is doing.

Well they would argue with you that you ride a bicycle and they ride a bike.

Most of the "bikers" around here are pretty cool. I get more respect out of them then most of the cagers.

I weigh 155 and my Harley was quiet.
With 14,000,000,598,456,002 people in the world
you can find one or two to support any generalization.
If you are 20 or 30 making these generalizions you dont
know what the 40's will bring you. Bad knees, back ,etc...
Maybe somebody will be laffing at you, too.

I live on the way to the Rock Store, so I see (hear) lots of window rattling Hogs on Hogs. I currently own 3 motorcycles. Never did a survey but a trip to Netunes net, Rock Store or Sagebrush cantina will do nothing to dispell that impression. I can't figure out why so many Harley owners can run such loud bikes and not get tickets.

Wow, thats funny you said this. All the crotch rocket rocketeers around here are 250+ and also, my sister whom Im pretty close with and I took our families to the local pool yesterday. We are both in decent shape and dont have any blubber hanging but the topic got brought up of how the super obese people were wearing 2 piece suits and/or hardly nothing at all and were ok with it.

Im not cutting on fat people, I need to loose another 20 pounds myself (<<< 170) but today, she called me from carowinds and said that it was worse there than at our local pool. I dont know how we got on the topic, we just did.

Not hitting on big people and I do not believe the crock about gland problems. I once heard a guy say he had a gland problem that caused him to be 425 pounds, I highly disagree and I may be ignorant but I dont think so. His Parents and sister were all over 400 and everytime I saw him, he was carrying around a 44oz super big gulp with Mcdonalds on the side of it.

If you eat Mcdonalds 3x a day, you are most likely gonna be fat. I was but not anymore.

I never meant it as a cut on obesity but there comes a time when one has to look in the mirror and say....."Damn I'm fat!" I did, and began riding. I am 6' and now weigh 195. I was 225 and had cheeks like Santa Claus!

I just don't get it. Like one post said, these folks from health issues drive up insurance cost for the folks who choose to be in good health. I think there is a moral obligation by folks to stay in good health, if not for them then for their children.

Saw a lady the other day in the grocery store piling her buggy full of junk and her poor little girl was way over weight. I just don't get it. And I do see in my area alot of overweight bikers (motorcyclist that is) and yes alot if not all are friendly but for Christ sakes, get a bicycle too and supplement that motorized fun. Or do something to lose that weight.

Yeah, can't stand to see fat chicks in skimpy bikini's! Or fat chicks in half tops! Someone should tell these folks that it is just not doing anything for them. My friends would have told me if I ever tried to dress in such manners if I were 30 lbs. heavier at my one year ago weight!

Oh well, didn't mean to get some folks riled, was not picking on the fat motorcyclist, just observing alot of fat folks who choose motorized two wheels when they may want to look into pedaling two wheels.

I did the same thing. I got up over 205, after being 170-175 most of my life. That is when I bought my bike. I lost a lot of weight. I slipped a little over the winter but I am now back to approaching 180.

I think that the big problem is that a number of these people have been fat since childhood. So they look in the mirror and don't see anything wrong.

Hard to see how obese they are when in SUV's, so it takes more, ahem, "guts" to ride around on a motorbike. Plus, better to "see" a big person on a motorbike than an SUV, because that big person is more likely to see YOU when on a motorbike than in an SUV.

The fat guys on cruisers are the ones I wave at. Probably for all the wrong reasons. I love the Acme Tough Guy schtick about as much as they probably love my lycra covered sweaty ass.

Edit: I was being sarcastic. Lets not get any ideas.

I'm a fat-ass and I ride a bicycle. After reading this thread, I think I'll buy a motorcycle and go annoy spandex clad ass clowns on road bikes while wearing a "Get over yourself" t-shirt. As for fat asses at the beach, they're the ones that are comfortable w/ their body image, not the body conscious nazis passing judgement on them.

Saw this morbidly obsese lady at the pool for the 3rd time today. Each time she was talking to someone about how she swims a 1/2 mile nonstop. Haven't seen her swim yet, just hanging out in the swallow end talking about it. At the gym I see this obese guy thats on the treadmill breaking a sweat 5 days a week. You can see the change happening, don't think he'll be obsese for long.

Oh buddy. I got over myself. 65lbs worth and counting. Every day I go out to the garage and make a choice among my two wheeled (only) fleet. Results reflect the choice.

On my way back up on PCH this weekend, I saw a fit girl riding a sport bike and the wind was blowing her tank top halfway up her back.

Never mind. I don't think this applies here.
