The B17's are ready to ride pretty much right out of the box, but some of the other Brooks saddles are like a brick when they're new. I bought my Team Pro late in the fall while I was waiting for my Lemond to arrive (it took 3 months for my 06 Sarthe to arrive, I ordered it in September '05, and it was ready to pick up on Dec 24th) so I got in a few rides before winter on the Team Pro using my Trek. But it was really on the trainer that I got in the miles to break that saddle in. The first 500-1,000 km are the critical ones, much easier to do in the kitchen and not have to face a long, painful ride home on a hard saddle.

I thought it was broken in at 500 km, and comfortable at 1000 km, but it just keeps getting better. I've got about 2,500 km on it now and I can't believe I thought it was broken in at 500 km.

Mine has about 25,000 kms on it now ...... and it is like settling into an easy chair when I ride. SO comfortable!!

Are you kidding me? That thing is comfortable?

Looks like something from the 17th century!

No kidding, it is that comfortable :D

Unfortunately the saddle I had then was a very cheap little thing (cost me $14) and about a year later it broke. That's when I went to the Brooks, because everything else I tried just didn't work. And the B17 has definitely been the saddle of choice!! :)

BTW - I can sympathize with the Selle Italia user (Patriot) .... one of the ones I tried during the transition period was the Selle Italia Ldy. The longest ride I did on that one was 100K, and I nearly died out there. It was not only the most uncomfortable thing for sitting, but it also left me with horrible lower back pain.

Ahh.... As mentioned, I would have guessed a person with your mileage standings could ride on a Rock, and still feel at home ;)

As for the SLR, it is a light weight saddle, the longest I have ridden on mine is 100km, however I never noticed it at all and found it surprisingly comfortable.

I think the saddle I could ride for ever on (my favorite of all time) has got to be the original Selle Italia Flite Titanium. I have never tried a Brooks long term.

No, even though I've covered well over 100,000 kms ... I am very particular about what sort of saddle I sit on. It has to have just the right shape and feel. :)

I have covered the bulk of those 100,000 kms on 3 saddles ... and each of those three were quite similar.

I've seen that one! :D

Actually, if you carved it so that it curved up in the back a bit, and chipped a couple divots in it for my sitbones, it would probably be more comfortable than that Specialized!!
