Your Next Build?
I have a roadie, and a fixed roadie. My final need/desire is a fat tired roadie. Although I'm really interested in ti and carbon, practicality and cost will probably dictate steel. The Giant OCR Composite is the exception. Vanilla, Kirk, Waterford, or Surly are the main options.
In the meantime I need a new carbon racing ski (kayak) for the next season. Their prices have tripled.

Now that's a thought, a ti CX would fit the bill nicely.

my next build if i can ever get money saved up is a rebuild of my old 73 raleigh gran prix with modern components. I want to go all out on it right down to basic red over gold metalic custom paint job. It has a drastic effect on the look of a paint job when done that just cant be duplicated with a single color over primer no matter how high quality the color coat paint is. Also goign to modernise to brifters free hub etc. I may put dummy downtube shifters on to keep it looking more original (complete with cables. Heck maybe i can figure out a way to have them change position based on the gear im in. Ill probably just make the cables dummys to.
In other words i want a modern bike that is pretty much impossible to tell its modern. I hope i can at least have it in paint and on the road by sept 2 to ride in stomp bicycle adeventure this year. The rest of the old dress up stuff can wait till after words if needed. I may or may not get old style centerpull breaks like it had originaly just depends on if i can find some modern look alikes that work better than old ones. If no look alikes ill go regular calipers 105s or somethign along that line.
I do intend on re adding the gold stripe around the lucgs inside the cut outs and out maybe via mask off with fine line tape. In other words i want it to look like the bike it is but ride like a much more modern bike.

How about Scandium? I have a certain love for this frame.
If was gonna do CX today, this would be it.

They're $900 at Full Cycles.

The problem I have is I can never quite decide on what geometry I want...touring or more of a racing set up. As we all know, no single bike is all things. I don't have a fixed gear but don't have a real urge for one either. I think my next frame will be a Litespeed Ti...fits my bill as an aging boomer yuppie :-) No Ti isn't really worth the price but there isn't a material out there I like better. Campy Record isn't worth it either but that would be the gruppo with Eurus wheelset and may even go over to the dark side and go with a carbon compact. Honestly, PM there is this beautiful Harley down the street with a for sale on it and I....am....trying.....real.....hard.....not.....to....buy....it.

Best Regards,
George
P.S. Why do you want a fat tired roadie?...they don't go quite as fast :-)

I'm all over the map, with so many projects I would like to undertake.... I suppose it will depend on what I find for my next frame.

About to embark on a build of a bike I just got using Ebay--early-2000s Serotta Legend Ti (if curious, see Item no. 170003309394). Will start a new thread in the next couple days, with pics and probably lots of questions. Already disassembled. Will be my first official BF chrono of a build. Looking forward to it.

Steel single speed that I'm planning to build over the winter and leave at my folks' place at the beach, so I don't need to bring my own bike up there constantly. SS for ease of building and maintaining, and the roads are dead flat up there so gears aren't an issue. Hoping to buy an old road bike for less than $100, and put no more than $200 in parts onto it to make it completely tailored to what I want it for (mainly Island Beach State Park rides and the occasional coffee run).
This will be the first bike I've ever built on my own so I'm gonna take my time, go slow, and have fun with it.

Chalk me up as another one that thinks he needs a Ti bike. My wife told me over the weekend that she gets Lasik after I get my next bike...LOL she knows there is another one coming and I haven't even gotten my current bike yet. That may sound odd but I have a Cannondale Rush on order...I thought she meant that but she said "No after your next bike."

Unique Vintage Steel
My next build will be the rebuild of my Gazelle. Along the same lines as Nova above. Vintage frame, modern group. In my case - a 2006/2007 Mixed Campy group. Largely Chorus with a few Centaur and Record bits.
After that - either a SS/Fixie or a vintage Campy build.

After testing all kinds I concluded that, if it isn't Ti or steel, it isn't for me. Since I've become disenchanted with Litespeed's lack of service, I've turned pretty much exclusively to steel. Waterford has some really light steel frames that are worth a second look. I don't spend much for bike frames so it is beyond my budget. But if I were willing to spend 4 figures for a frame, it would be a Waterford.

I think I'm now seriously considering ti as the next option.

I thought Litespeed was known for their great service? Waterfords are definitely sweet. The tigged frame with steel fork (Henry James crown) is reasonably priced.

My old Ciocc is getting a set of 105 brifters and some new shoes and some new paint/powder-coat. I have all the parts just sitting here but I've been too lazy and I was putting together my track bike. Here is how it is looking so far:
edit: Holy mackeral, I really need to flip that stem!

My shop has an 05 Giant TCR Comp frame left in my size. $1000. If it ever gets ridiculously marked down, I'll build it up.
