TdF TT suits aero hump?
Looking at pics of some TdF riders after TT. Looks like they wear some type of padding in the suit just behind the rear of the helmet on the back. Prob. for aero purposes.
? |
you're partially right.
I'm pretty sure you're talking about the radio that rides have fitted into the skinsuit, just between the top of the back and the butt. |
Or if you've seen Bobby Julich, the hump is his Camelbak water pack.
|
|
Camelbaks and radios both go under the skinsuit.

Camelbaks? What whimps - I figured they didn't drink when only TTing for an hour or so.

Moto GP racers have humps on their suits. But again they are going 100mph+

Sportbike suits have kevlar or polycarb in the back to protect your spine. On a bicycle, it's all aerodynamics.
|
They may be using the old technique of a sponge soaked in water on the back for cooling. Check out some of the old tour photos. sometimes, the sponges were soaked on cologne, since the alcohol gave a better cooling effect.
Imagine what that must of smelled like! |
I wouldn't be looking at a KoM if you're talking about TT's.

Camelbaks are banned! Jullich wore it once in the tdf tt a few years back. Not since.
