Blue Bicycles

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Blue Bicycles

First real post here, so please be gentle...

Does anyone know anything about Blue Bicycles? I know they'e one of many, but their prices look decent. I'm more interested in feedback or experience in frame build and materials quality. Basically, do they suck?

A second note, I know nothing about bikesdirect but it seems to engender a lot of strong opinions around here. I'm curious about the hostility.

Thanks for any info you got.

awesome. a picture posting opportunity!

here's mine

i've only heard good things about their frames, and you really can't beat them in terms of bang for your buck.

nothing really specific to say about their quality other than they have nice looking welds and are fairly light, etc.

www.rideblue.com They really have some awesome frames. They are built in Korea and assembled and painted in the Atlanta area. I am thinking of buying one myself. Everybody I have talked to loves them but they are the "hardcore" racers. I have heard comments about the aggressive geometry so it may not be well suited for beginning riders.

Sweet looking ride Dog.

Thanks for the info. I'm fortunate that there's a dealer relatively close, but I gotta have a good reason to brave Seattle.

SweetSammy,

I have not ridden one myself, but I do have a friend who reps them to local bike shops. He has let a couple mutual friends test ride them on local rides. We are all just club riders, no racers. They seem to have positive general comments about the bike, but none have bought one. I will say that I think they are a very nice looking bike in person.

+1. They sell them at the LBS where I bought my Bianchi and the sales rep said they were built with racing in mind so the geometry is more agressive.

it's just a crap @$$ generic racing saddle with ti rails. really light. don't even know the brand name, but it may look familiar to anyone who has bought a motobecane le champion sl. jschen and i go to talking about saddles the other day, basically i thought i'd just give it a try since my specialized avatar had a tendency to argue with my butt after a certain amount of miles - and usually win. gotta tell you it's more comfy than the avatar, although i'm thinking it's just better suited to a racy riding position. eh... i like it, but i don't know if i like like it. it's just an interim saddle until i find "the one."

i haven't. i'm not convinced that i should have to pay that much for a saddle. i'm interested in the tioga spyder, though, so i may give that one a shot.

I went from considering a $90 saddle to that one. I love it.

Toupe. I was going to try the SLR, but the durability questions gave me pause. So the logical choice was to a buy a saddle double the price. Of course.

yeah, i dunno..
if i could somehow try it out first, i might. the tioga looks like it's nice and suspendy-like, so i'm drawn to it for that reason. there's also selle san marco i saw at the trek store that looks like a winner, too. i may have to give that one a shot since it's only $50.

You could try my Toupe, but the bike will be too small for you.

Have you tried any of the Aspide flavors? Performance has a couple of them from $80-90.

the main thing i'm concerned about is the crashability of the thing. when i had my race wreck earlier this year, i thanked my lucky stars i had a $20 saddle! i might have been brought to tears if i'd had anything else on there.
come to think of it, it's probably just my own selective reasoning telling me "yeah, yeah...this one's juuuust fine. yeah, that's the ticket."

i didn't actually think i was going to crash. it just sort of happened. i guess i could/should say someone crashed me.

first road bike crash in over 20 years and it took a race situation for it to happen.

Alejandro Valverde's one-off Pinarello looked quite crashable to me... he did it quite well.
