Do You Ride on Smoggy/Air Quality Warning Days?
We've been under a red (very bad) air quality alert in Salt Lake all week. Haven't ridden since Wednesday and getting the itch.
Just curious if others say "damned be my lungs, I'm riding" or wait until the air clears up, or just don't ride. What does everybody here do (assuming you live in a smog infested city?) Have a group ride planned for tomorrow morning and hoping riding in the early morning will avoid some of the problems.

Ride in the early morning before rush-hour, or in the evening when the AQI is not as bad. Here in NY, we have rivers. It seems that biking near one the AQI is not as bad as say, biking in midtown. Biking in a park is not as bad as biking in traffic, etc. etc.

It was really bad in the valley a few days ago. I kept wondering why we were having what looked like an evil inversion layer hanging around in the valley in the middle of summer. It was so bad that I couldn't even see the mountains on either side from Taylorsville. I learned that it was the wildfires in CA blowing smoke over here on the evening news.
I didn't ride that day, but I did go out and ride the last two days. It didn't seem as bad, plus I just tried to quit smoking. I figured one more day of the same wouldn't hurt. Your lungs may disagree, depending on how sensitive they are.

Those are my favorite days to ride especially when the temps hit close to 100 or more. I ride after work at 4 pm so I am at primetime smog levels every day I ride.
