Question for "Fred"
 

Did Fred take the:
1. Bike shop sticker
2: Frame size sticker
3. Lawyer sticker at the base of the down tube
and 4: Lawyer sticker from inside the chainstay off his bike off?

Or did he leave them on?

On a serious question, on my presta valves, the little cap and threaded ring. The rings loosen, and rattle, but I am worried if I put them on too tight, it might make the valve weak. Should you not use them?

You carry all that extra weight? I'm not sure I can even talk to you with that kind of attitude. ;)

I know, but remove stickers is easier than not having a double-double at in-n-out each week. Plus, the carbon fiber bottle cages are already being used to replace the pepsi I have on saturdays.

I don't use the rings. I will screw them on to aid airing up the tire (holds the stem while I push my pump head on) then I take them off. I do use the valve cap but I know a lot of guys who don't.

Leave the bike shop sticker on, it tells them immediately that you've bought the bike from them and that your tune-ups should be free when you wheel your bike in their shop.

I leave the ring and cap on. My riding partner leaves them off. Whenever we ride together, we both get to the same destination.

put a touch of grease on the valve stem threads and snug em down tight. or just take em off.

I never leave the rings on...i have had the valves tear away from the tiube after riding some particularly rough roads. I had about 3 different occasion when I would develop a slow leak and not know where I got it, unitl I saw that every one of them was because the valve had ripped away from the tube. I stopped leaving the rings on and that hasn't happened since. Of course I was a dumba$$ and used to tighten them arond the base of the valve....served me right

Oh. I was supposed to remove the frame size sticker?

I asked 55/Rad Jr., whose real name is Fred, and he said lose the rings if you have aero wheels as they look "dorky" and serve no meaningful purpose if you know how to attach a pump without shoving the valve all the way into the rim.

He said caps are optional as Dad does it both ways.

Then he wanted us to go get slurpees.

I took off the bike shop sticker.

I mean, what were they thinking - putting a big silver sticker on my Project One Madone painted in Red with yellow flames.

It was truly ugly.

rings off, caps on..

but what about all those warning "you will die using this equipment" stickers. What bugs me the most about the frame stricker is, it reminds me my bike is a size too small for me.

I met a female master's triathlong champion. She just laughed at the entire concept. "Why should I give a damm about a couple of grams?" she said. And then she smoked my ass. Guess she's the ultimate Fred.

Don't get me wrong, it has nothing to do about weight. I am just wondering of they detract from appearance of my extra 30 pounds i am carrying.
