Down to two: Alias vs Fly

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Down to two: Alias vs Fly

I've narrowed down selection of a new saddle to the Alias and the Fly, for what are likely illogical, emotional and random reasons.

The Fly seems to have a ton of positive comments, with few bad ones. The Alias comes well recommended. I'm no racer, just riding 50-75 miles per week average. 5'9 about 154 lbs, haven't used the Ass-O-Meter yet but I expect a 143 is about right.

Comments welcomed!

I have the Avatar on two bikes and the Alias on my Tarmac. Never a problem with either of them but I like the Avatar a bit better for 100+ mile rides. Can't tell you a thing about the Fly. For 50-75 miles per week, you might also consider the Avatar. Same as the Alias but with a small amount of gel where the sit bones rest.

I had a fly on my old bike, probably would have kept it but the rails were not long enought for me to set the for/aft of the saddle correctly w/new bike/seatpost.... can't say I loved it but more importantly didn't dislike....

Ended up with a forte slx pro from performance, so far I am happy with it. FWIW, I tried a aspside in between and did NOT like it, even with the cutout had to stand every mile or so to keep feelin' down south...

Haven't tried any of the new specializeds...toupe looks ok, but at 200lbs it seemed a little too flexy

I would try the Fly first; they have a 30-day guarantee. If you don't like it take it back and get the Alias.

Alias also has a 30 day guarantee.

I've tried them both, I thought the fly had more give than the alias. I'd expect the fly to be slightly better at centuries than the alias if it fits. The alias is nice but my sit bones created dimples in the padding after 800 miles. After that it hurt to sit on it for more than 30 miles. I'm debating on getting a toupe 130, but for now a Selle Italia Prolink is on my ride.

I have the alias and have had it for around 1200 miles, no problems at all, no numbness on rides up to 70 miles. probably going to replace it with a lighter saddle at some point in the future.

Have Terry Fly Tri. More rounded at back as is Fly. A softer saddle than Alias.
My Alias is the most comfortable saddle I've come across. Flat across the back and good past 75 miles. Has a rep for being hard but for me that helps the sit bones. I think there 275 grams, no lightweight but not Brooks heavy by any stretch.

Update: 9 pm PDT.

Well, went to the LBS. I was a bit suprised at the flexiness of the Alias and Toupe, perhaps a bit more than I'd like switching from the Brooks. Ultimately, I walked (rode) out with an Avatar 143.

I rode 15 miles after work today and my initial feeling was that it was pretty comfy, certainly on a par with the saddle I already have. I was happy that I felt okay on there even though it's apparent I have much less butt contact overall. Felt like I was riding naked!

I noticed that I'll have to play a bit with height and position as I dial it in. I had marked the seat post for height with the other saddle but I needed to lower it to feel correctly on there. I guess the rails and seat are closer together.

It will take several more rides of different lengths to see how much I like this saddle. I'll update as needed.
