Thinking about Jamis Eclipse
Anyone have one of these? I'm interested in one and am wondering about the versitility (comfort) of this bike for longer rides (like metric century and charity rides). How "comfortable" is this bike? Is is more of a race bike?
I don't race but I want a fast bike that is reasonably comfortable (and I think I can get a good price on a used model). Any Jamis Eclipse fans? How do you ride? Thanks |
The Jamis Aurora is more comfortable, touring bike geometry than the Eclipse, but the Eclipse will get you there too...Take it for a spin and see what you think!

I'm a fan though I've never owned one. I always felt it represented a great bang-for-the-buck combination for an 853 based bike.
What year are you looking at - '05, '06, used? What the component mix? Price? 55/Rad |
I love my '02. Now if I could just get a good steel fork for it, I could put it back together.

Thanks Rad. It's 05 from a guy who works at the LBS. I'll test ride it tomorrow and see how it feels and fits. It has Centaur 10 speed. I really want compact cranks and really want Campy (but didn't think I could afford it except used.
One big question in my mind is the seemingly contradictory aspect that I want (need) compact cranks but the frame is more of a racing frame I think. The gearing of cc is really right for me so that is not a question. I want to make sure the ride is not too harsh. My impression from reading is that it won't be. We'll see tomorrow. |
I own a 2001 eclipse (black and yellow) that is all 853 steel. I really like it, rides great ( doesn't see much action due to other newer bikes). I think the 05 version is sweet, and would love to have one. It has a nice mix of Steel and Carbon, and one cool paint job. If your getting it at a good price I say go for it you will not be dissapointed.

2004 with carbon seat & chain stay. Sweet ride. Anyone have the 2005/06 with the carbon top tube? Just curious about the ride.

I had a Comet from 03 and it was fast but a little harsh with the aluminum frame. For the metric rides, you will really appreciate the steel frame on the Eclipse. Besides Jamis bikes are some of the best bang for the buck on the market.
