2007 Trek 1500 with almost full Ultegra?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just discovered a few minor cosmetic issues... a series of small scratches on one crank arm, and a scratch on top of the 105 shifter. Should I have the LBS fix or exchange it? I know it has nothing to do with the performance of the bike, but still... it kinda disturbs me that there are visible imperfections on a brand new bike I just bought yesterday. What do you guys think?
You already took possession of the bike? I would say they are your scratches now.

It's a respectable LBS, the name of the shop is Trisport in Fresno, CA. This is my first purchase with them. Yeah, I should have spent more time inspecting every inch of the bike before I checked it out, but my wife was impatient to go home. Definitely not scratches I caused, since I haven't ridden the bike yet... on the ride home from the shop, it was in the back of my SUV on the carpet.... went straight to our spare bedroom where I put important stuff in hehe.

Maybe Trek was looking to get rid of its old 9-speed Ultegra stock, so they put them on brand new Trek 1500s instead of new 105s (which I imagine is the real configuration). When did Shimano switch over to 10 speed Ultegras, anyway? Wasn't it before '06?

Isn't Shimano also switching over to 10-speed 105's? When is that supposed to happen?

On the downside, I still wonder if the dealer could be changing out the parts, the old Ultegra parts could be used, the bike could be a return sold as new, who knows? I would think I wouldn't have to be too wary of an authorized Trek dealer on a new bike, but I'm not sure...
Well, I have a 2006 Allez comp with all 10 speed 105 so Im guessing last year.

9 speed / 10 speed, who cares? It's an ultegra bike for under $1000. Sounds like a good deal.

Btw, Lemond was running a deal on the Versailles for under $1000. Not an ultegra bike but that carbon/steel frame rides really well.

Do you guys think $550 is a good deal for an 07 Trek 1500 (red model) with the 105 parts only, in like new condition? Found one on craigslist and I have read very good reviews on this bike from the forum. I don't think I can do any better with the $550, plus I am not really looking to spend more. I was going to look for a newer Specialized Allez but I figured this frame is solid and I can always upgrade to ultegra little by little. Just wanted to know what you guys think in terms of the price before I jumped the gun.

I am aware of that ^. I figured it would be better to reply to this thread specifically about the bicycle I am asking about instead of making a new thread with a question that does not require a whole bunch of posts to answer.
