Exactly. By the time I bail to the 25 or 27, it's out of need, not just to "spin" up the hill, so that is why I don't notice. The 2T difference between the 25 and 27 on a steep hill, is like you said, un-noticeable. The pain is still there.

I spend a lot of time in the 50T chainring - even some climbs. I've noticed a big difference going from the 21T to the 24T cog instead of the 21T to the 23T cog, particularly while ascending. As far as the 27T cog, I barely ever use it.....but it's there if I need it.
