I think I like the heat better than the cold

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think I like the heat better than the cold

Riding with a sweat is way better than those first 5-10 minute of being frozen on the bike. Good thing I live in Arizona

I'd rather have 5-10 mins "warmup" and then ride with comfort
(but that's not how it goes around here... in FL)

I'd give my left nut to have year-round warm temps....I hate the cold weather (although I love it for mountaineering....).

not to mention all the time it takes to put on/take off the cold weather gear...

Sweating dripping off of me makes me feel alive. I love to ride in 90+ and run 85+ in the South Carolina humidity! 95 gets bad for running and 100 is rough on the bike though.

I don't mind the heat when I'm riding and do prefer it over extreme cold. But OTOH, I prefer cool weather when I'm not riding...

Add me to the "prefer the cold" group. I can dress properly to ride through all but a few extremely cold days during the winter here in NJ, but when it gets stupidly hot and humid I don't even want to go outside, let alone ride my bike. My mileage drops this time of year.

I like both, except real cold, then I just snowshoe. That real cold air burns the lungs, not to mention the hands and ears, even with the gloves and skull cap. I would have to say that I love the Spring rides. One of my best rides this year was mid Spring, it was in the upper 40's but, really sunny, I had tights on the bottom and a long sleeve thermal top, under a cycling shirt. The tights and long sleeve top were black, so they soaked up the sun. It was the most perfect temp ride ever for my body it seemed.

Heat doesn't bother me. I'd much rather ride when it's hot than when it's cool.

The problem I have with riding in cold weather is my throat. I don't have any trouble staying warm, but I tend to get a sore throat from breathing the cold air, especially when doing sprint intervals.

If I had my pick I'd take 75F year round. However, since reality intrudes I'll tkae the heat over the cold any day! (Good thing since I live in Florida!)

Definitely like the heat! It is no fun being so bundled up that I can no longer move.

Ditto. I hate cold weather. The only issue I have with summer heat is keeping the sweat out of my eyes.

Let's see...

Cold weather: numb fingers & toes, lots of clothing, constant runny nose, risk of hypothermia

Hot weather: reduced power output, dehydration, heat exhaustion, hyponatremia, nausea, vomiting, coma, death

I'll take cold weather over hot, but that's just me.

Being someone that sweats a lot, I'd prefer colder weather.
That being said, the only thing about cold weather that really bothers me is breathing in the cold air and having my lungs and throat freeze.
If it was extreme cold to extreme hot, I probably wouldn't go outside, but colder weather is better for me. Easier to keep hydrated, that's for sure.

Get one of those coolmax headcover things - I swear by them now, and don't get any sweat in my eyes anymore since wearing one. It works wonders.

I figured as I'm crusing down the road at 20 mph trying to barely see out of one eye because my other eye stings too much to open, that was a bit dangerous.....

Oddly enough, I've found I've ridden faster in hot weather for some reason.....even though my muscles like the cooler temps. I can't figure that one out. For example....not bike related.....but when climbing a mountain (mountaineering), I generally don't like temps any warmer than 20 degrees....otherwise I seriously start to overheat, sweat, and get the energy sucked right out of me. Ideal temps are anywhere from the negative digits to 15-20 degrees.

So....for climbing mountains, give me extreme cold and blizzards. For everything else, I'll take 80+ and sunny, please.

You should try skydiving in the winter. We used to go to 15,000 with no door on the jump plane wearing Spandex jump suits. If it's 30 F on the ground it's -20 F at altitude.

Oh, yeah, don't forget the 120 mph wind chill. Yeeeha.

I'll take the heat as well, but it has been brutal lately. Today on my ride, the 'feels like' temperature was 100. That was rough.

I almost universally hate the heat. It drains me and sometimes I feel as if I am going crazy from the heat (we have no A/C in our house in Denver since a box one would keep the upstairs neighbor awake at night). However, when I am riding, the hotter the better. I do not know why, but I enjoy the heat and the sweat. I think the sweat and the hotter body temps makes me feel as if I am accomplishing more. However, the minute I get done my ride, I am ready for that Coors train to come through town and make it cool again.

I'm lucky enough to have weather that allows riding year round. In winter here (Sacramento, CA) it seldom gets colder than the low 40's and outside of the hottest weeks in summer (like right now) it's simply beautiful. We've had 10 straight days over 100 degrees with a couple of days close to or at 110. That's just too hot. I've had to scratch my after work rides and only go out in the early morning on weekends. In any case, I'm glad we never have to shovel any of it!

I just moved from Chicago to Phoenix, and it's freakin HOT. It has been 110+ a lot lately, ugh. I burnt my leg on my crank last saturday. I guess it's ok though because at least I am riding. In the winter in Chicago I rarely rode.

Get used to it buddy. Global Warming will put an end to cold weather riding fairly soon. Anyone notice that the rate in the increase in the heat has increased dramatically in the past few years? Well - I think we can safely say we have reached and passed the tipping point.
