1/2" or 9/16" platform pedals?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

1/2" or 9/16" platform pedals?

What's going on, everyone? I just got a new road bike, and I don't like the strap on pedals it came with. It's on 07 Raleigh Grand Sport. I am trying to get new pedals, but I'm not sure whether to get them in 1/2" or 9/16"? I'm assuming that is a measurement of bolt size, but I thought I'd ask first.

As in the drivetrain side unscrews clockwise, and the left side is opposite, right? I assume it's the same as bmx. What torque should I apply to them? I hear it's pretty pretty high.

.

most bmx bikes don't even take 1/2 anymore. that's only ones that come with 1 piece cranks. most of them are coming with three piece cranks these days so they're all taking 9/16". how else would we get clipless pedals on our bikes?

Wrong, most bmx bikes take 9/16'', 1/2'' is usually found on 1pc cranks.
