Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tour de France champion Floyd Landis tested positive for high levels of testosterone during the race, his Phonak team said Thursday on its Web site.
The statement came a day after cycling's world governing body said an unidentified rider had failed a drug test during the Tour.

The problem is with UCI pro Euro cycling. It's too friggin hard, the money generally blows and it's too dangerous. And they wonder why these dudes take steroids and EPO.

Don't wonder so hard you idiots.

I sure hope this is just a missunderstand/jump to conclusions/witch hunt. Because now after the Tour alot of riders implicated in that Spanish probe have been cleared. I hope they have hard evidence before they smear someones reputation and efforts.

CNN said the failed test was after stage 17, where he had the best ride ever in The Tour Of France. I hope it is not the case but testosterone can be used to speed a recovery, and God knows he needed it after stage 16. The Tonight show on Friday should be good viewing if he still shows up .

Sad day to be American. First Hamilton and now Landis? If this is true, they should ban the entire sport since it's fairly clear that almost everyone is cheating.

This is very disheartening. This was a great tour to watch, and FL's performance was inspring -- had all of the drama, suffering and heroism that has made the TdF so great for so long. But if this is true then it is crushing. And who's kidding who... its unlikely that it is not true. After all those riders were implicated in the blood doping at the beginning of the tour it was obvious that everyone is indeed doing it. A great champion can beat a few other lesser riders who are doping, but not other great champions who are doping. The sport is being destroyed by this ****.

The tour and the UCI need to institute year-round testing and go to the wall to clean this up. Riders' agreement to participate in all-out testing should be a condition of participation. I can't bear to watch any more of it without knowing how much of these incredible performances are the result of training, effort, and will, and how much is from the juice.

Disgusted.

The control process uses an A and B control sample for good reason. Unless the B is also positive, this was just a bunch of media hype.

This doesn't mean much until Sample B comes through. High testosterone levels can be brought on naturally so it doesn't necessarily mean he was doping. It could've been from his Cortizone shots for his hip.

Maybe.

Like I said in the other thread on this, Floyd taking steroids the day before his big comeback makes no sense as it takes 3 days for the drug to give any benefit (from everything I've read, so I could be wrong).

Busted!

BUSTED! I knew it! You don't just lose like almost 10 minutes on a stage and then go f-ing Eddy Merckx on everybody the next day to win the Tour. Nope. Not without some good drugs. Sorry Floyd. Too bad that Armstrong got away after all those years. That bastard is the poster child for EPO.

What a disaster for cycling. If after the way the TdF started Landis is still willing to dope and let everyone talk about inspirational his ride was I just don't know if I can watch this sport anymore. I will continue to ride and enjoy my time on the bike but spending hours watching the tour is over for me.
