DFW Folk-Hotter than Hell- What's the plan?
Who all is going to Hotter than Hell?
There haven't been any threads about a DFW BF contingent going. JSharr, Cuda2k, lotek, and I discussed it on one of our rides, but nothing concrete. Since we are now less than a month away I figured we could start to get organized. Maybe could get at least a carpool going to save on gas. Thoughts? |
I thought about doing it but never put a plan into action. It would definitely be a drive there and back in one day type thing since planning was not done earlier.
|
I'll be there for the whole weekend.
|
I gotta go. :D Anyone wanna share a hotel room. I don't snore.....much. :D

Just Friday night? Here is another option although I am not familiar with what a Babtist is:): "Lamar Babtist Church: Anyone interested in staying in the Lamar Babtist Recreation Center, should send e-mail to brady@lbcwf.org or call the main church office at 940-723-4371. My extension is 17 for after-hours voicemail. The Family Activities Center is located at 2109 Tenth Street, although the building faces 11th. It would probably be easiest to note it as the corner of Tyler and 11th. Arrangements will be on the floor so they will need to bring bedding. Showers are available. Inside storage of cycles is permitted. There will be no charge for staying. No alcohol or tobacco in the building." |
Funny I was just going to post about this.
I spoke to the wife about the ride and she is up for it so we'll be heading up on Friday (have to call camp chaparel (sic)) problaby doing either the 50 miler or the metric century at a nice easy pace ( I really don't wish to die like a dog on the roadside of Wichita Falls (or Burkeburnett). Marty |
I registered this morning.
Called camp chaparel and they have dorm type rooms only (hotel rooms are all booked). Marty |
I'm not signed up for it yet. Let me do that and then start planning this thing. Also - turns out that getting off work might be a big hassle.

I'm debating right now. I'd like to do it, but I'm already having to take one Friday off in August as it is to to go a wedding. I'm definately doing Cotton Patch Classic and Bonham rides in Sept and Oct. Haven't ruled out a HHH trip yet, but have to see if I can swing the time off and out of town still.
|
I would like to make the trip but I wish I would have started planning earlier. I am not a fan of dorm type rooms. I also do not want to drive there for the ride then have to turn around and drive home the same day, although I would rather take this option than to stay in a dorm type room. I will probably have to pass on this ride.

Talking to camp chaparrel now,
dorm rooms are $40 for the first night, $30 for the second night. Includes spaghetti dinner friday evening and a generous breakfast before the ride. The good thing is check out is after the ride so you can go back to room, shower and then drive back. I've always stayed in the hotel type rooms but due to my procrastination, well, they're all full. Marty |
If anyone has a spare seat and a space on their bike rack, please let me know. I will need to leave the car at home for my wife and kid. I am willing to put in my fair share of gas money, if anyone can give me a lift from the DFW area.
|
I rode the 100 mile section in 4.5 hours in 1989 I have no plan to ever do it again. but once you do it you have bragging rights that no frog can ever get close to.

I've had the bike in the room with me (was in the hotel portion).
They open the dining room up for bike storage overnight, and they have folks who stay there to ensure no funny stuff (it is a baptist camp  ) The food is good, the rooms are clean and the showers hot, what more could one ask for? marty |
Sounds pretty good. Alright, I'm pretty much committed to riding this thing. :) I'll be leaving Dallas on Friday afternoon. What time is this spaghetti dinner you speak of? I don't want to be setting land speed records to try to make it in time for the grub. :p

ah crap, I think I'm out. They blacked out my department from taking any vacation time in the month of August. I scored an exception to it for my b-day, so I'd be pushing it asking for more I think. Grrrrr.
|
Sorry to hear it ravenmore. Any chance you might come down with a 'bike flu' that week? ;)
|
no doubt - right? heh - I'm tempted to do just that...

Cuda -- Have you decided where you are going to spend the night for the HHH? I want to go but I have a feeling there is not going to be any places to spend the night. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. My wife will be out of town that weekend so it is a perfect weekend for me to do a century ride. I am also thinking about just driving up the morning of the ride. I am up at 4:45 AM for my Saturday morning club rides so getting up early is not an issue.
