Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have 17yo (1989) Centurion Ironman Expert. I rode it with the original Suntour GPX 7s conmponents forever, on my commute. I decided to finally custom paint it, and upgrade to Campy Veloce 10s. The main reason was because for my commute there are many areas where DT shifters are actually rather unsafe, and keeping both hands on the bars is a must.

Other than that, old steelies are great for just what you intend. Have at it!!!
