Campagnolo Veloce gruppo? Input needed
 

If you are familiar with this gruppo, the quality, durability etc... I need your input. I no nothing about Campy, but ran across, what seems to be a nice deal on a new goup. I have been told the Veloce compares somewhere in-between Shimano 105 and Ultegra. True? Any info is appreciated.

i have the centaur group which is almost identical to the veloce stuff, and it's great. i'm a total convert and won't go back to shimano. dollar for dollar the veloce group is probably the best deal going. it's very durable (popular with the cyclocross kids) the shifters are rebuildable, and you get 95% of the performance of chorus/record stuff for less than a third the price. i say yes.

go for it and don't turn back. My veloce group hasn't given me any problems (except for needing to readjust the limits on the front derailleur ONCE in 800 miles). When I was researching the difference between the shimano and campy I tried to find where the veloce stood in comparison, but I learned that the two companies really shouldn't be compared. Both make quality products, however with different feels. You won't be dissapointed with the veloce though

I have a 9 and 10 speed Veloce group as well as an Ultegra bike. I would say it's on par with Ultegra, maybe heavier. The Ultegra is smoother shifting, but Camoy is more positive, and I like the hoods and shifters much better. You can't go wrong.

The hubs are a little heavy (steel axles) but durable.

If your buddies out-climb you then try Record.

I have a Veloce group on my commuter. It is bombproof stuff. Slightly heavier than Ultegra, but perform a smidgeon better than 105. After 1500mi, not a single problem.

One nice thing about Veloce. The BB's are bomproof. They are heavy at 300g, but they last forever like the older Ultegra 6500 BB's, and those Veloce BB's only cost $12. Even the 10s cassettes are only about $45 from www.11speed.com

I disagree here. Ultegra is not smoother shifting. It takes less hand pressure to accomplish the shift. It has nothing to do with smoothness. I would take a Veloce group over Ultegra any day.

I ride with Veloce. To me it is the best gruppo out there for the money. For more cache and slightly less weight, the higher level Campy gruppos are even nicer but Veloce is an excellent value. As usual, I agree with Fred above...I much prefer Veloce to Ultegra.

Ultegra seems to glide in to gear - thus smoother. I didn't say I liked it better, but that is how it feels. I also would rather have Veloce as when you hit the lever it changes gears, seems to shift faster. Both shifters are easy enough to work, although I like Campy better, my smoothness comment was referring to what it feels like is going on at the RD.

The Campy-Shimanno war rages on. Veloice is the best bang for the buck.

I've run some Veloce before and it's nice stuff. The brakes, shifters and ders are outstanding for the money IMO. The cranks are pretty nice, but do have stamped rigns. The hubs sort of suck, but most people don't use them anyway. When I built with Veloce I used it for shifters, brakes and ders and then used Centaur for the cranks and hubs. Made for a great value.

Now I'm running full Record and I can say the difference is huge because Veloce/Centaur was just that good. The front der is decidely quicker and more precise and the brakes are stronger.......and of course it's lighter. Other then that though, the difference is subtle.

I have Centaur shifters and Veloce eveything else...I love it...shifts are crisp, and it seems really durable
