Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

one day licence

I want to do my first road race but was wondering if there was a way to do it without a license. I've read that there are one day licenses but I'm not sure if they are offered at all races. I was thinking of going out to the Floyd Bennett Field race tomorrow but wasn't sure if they'd let me race.

Usually, they'll let you buy a 1 day license for a nominal fee ($5 or so). The flyer/website should state this.

Would you say that the chances of getting to race are good enough to get up early and ride the 10 miles out there?

You'll be fine, they defiently have one day license, i have gone once, and a buddy i ride with is cat 4, and i also know one of the race marshall's. I usally go to watch atleast, but i have previous plans, They havealso been doing them on tuesdays as well, and i have tried it out a few times in the cat 5. Its really windy ou there, and the pavement is really quite abrasive, so don't fall, but do have fun!
