'75 Motobecane
How much do you think a '75 Motobecane Mirage in good shape with no upgrades is worth?

$50
|
Not much unless you really want it.

I had a Mirage from about that time frame. Straight gauge 1020 steel tubing, chrome plated steel rims. Weighed a ton. I rode it for about 6 years. Good times.
|
The NERVE of those impostors selling chinocrap carbon frames festooned with no-name (shima-no) parts and claiming the pedigree of classic steel racers such as this. I am ...outraged.
|
I have a 1980 but mine is fully restored with new wheels. I didn't pay for the bike but it cost me about $200 to restore it. Mine is a really nice ride. I think I might repaint it over the winter.

I bought one at a garage sale, maybe a few years newer, for $15. Included a Zefal frame pump. If you haunt yard sales and thrift shops you should be able to find a similar quality bike as the Mirage for no more than $25. But it may take a while. The plus is that you may luck into a bargain on something much better.

I would cry if I saw a $15 price tag on my old Motobecane. There is something to be said for sentimental value.
That said, your bike is worth $15 to me. And mine is probably worth $14 to you. |
Some are worth more than you think. I waited to long on one at a pawn shop and missed out. It was pretty clean and had Columbus 531 steel tubing and Campy Nuevo Record parts. I could have gotten it for $200. Guys in the vintage forum said if you see anything with all campy parts and 531 tubing for that buy it without thinking twice....
