Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I am looking at a set of these:
They are super light like 1300 gr.

Anyone have these:
As a 165 lb rider can I use these/ are they tough enough to hold up as a daily wheel averaging about 5 K miles per year?

I'm taking delivery of a set over Labor Day weekend. I'm about 135-140 lb, and bike, rider, water, etc comes out to about 160 lb. I'm hoping for them to be durable enough for routine use, though with a backup wheelset for rainy weather or especially rough roads. We'll see.

I'm about 165 lbs and HEAVILY considered the Elan Aeros prior to purchasing the Vigors. Everyone I know with experience with these claims they hold up very well to everyday use. Great wheel.

As an aside - I did have the American Classic Sprint 350 with the Sapim spokes - about 1270 grams. While they were good, I never felt they were in the same class as the Elan Aeros.

You went with the Vigors. Why did you not purchase the Elan's.
My concern is the are so light ... I worry about a pot hole trashing a wheel.

"Everyone you know with experience with these" (Vigors or Elan's) ?

I am also looking at the Aspin's.
Also might have a good deal ($450) on a new set of race X Lites ..... Any thoughts?

I have a set of the Elans and love them. I weigh around 144 lbs and use them as race wheels only. They're outfitted with light tires and tubes to take full advantage of their low climbing weight. They probably could handle everyday use....but why would you want to use $900 wheels for that purpose? I like to train on my heavier wheel sets so that when I do race with the Elans, they feel that much lighter and responsive.

I went with the Vigors simply because, at the time, I got a better deal on them. I would have gone with the Elan Aeros if I could have gotten them new for the same price.

As for potholes, I destroyed the rear Vigor rim when I hit a curb while getting run off the road. But to be fair, no rim would have survived that. Otherwise, I've hit many a hole with nary a flinch.

I've got a Campy set that I'll sell for cheap if you're interested. I raced and climbed on them but the move to OK limits the opportunity for climbing in the mountains. PM me if you're curious. I'm finally getting settled after the move and new job so I can get pics by week's end.
