I've corresponded with Cateye, and they say it's a characteristic of wireless computers, and nothing can be done. |

Cateye Astrale 8, no complaints, cheap and works fine
Have been debating a Flight Deck, but seems to get mixed feedback... |
I own Specialized Speedzone elite. They're wireless and it seems to work pretty sturdy.

Trek Incite 11i
It's pretty good AFAIK (my 1st computer), but I wish it also had average cadence. I can see myself upgrading to a geeked out cyclocomputer soon. |

Cateye Astrale 8 here too....
Has all the features I want (especially cadence) and is $30 or less. Great quality too. |
Flightdeck and several Sigma BC1100 (or are they 1200's, I don't know). I like the wireless Flightdeck because no wires to block the view of my carbon fork or distract from the stunning orange paint. That and its kinda fun to have the flightdeck tell me what gear I'm in (because it way to much hassle to look down).
But for 20-dollars, the Sigma's are great. And out of four Sigma's I've bought, not one has failed! dp |
What's your reason for replacing the older Cateye? Is it not working? Or are you looking for additional features? Best bang for the buck won't mean much if you're not sure what you want.

I've had good luck with the Astrale 8, but I just got a second bike and fitted it out with a Sigma BC1600 (now replaced by the 1606L). So far I like this much better than the Cateye...much larger, more readable display and you can actually see the time of day while you're riding. Plus you can edit the odometer settings in case you are upgrading from a different computer. And you can mount the unit on the stem (though getting the cadence leads in is a tight fit). The 1606L looks even better...adding average cadence and a backlight for about the same money as the 1600. The only thing I don't like are the o-ring mounts. I just know they are going to harden and crack, probably at a bad time. I much prefer the Cateye zip ties.
I've been shying away from wireless computers because I often run an HID headlight. |
CATEYE ASTRALE 8...great computer and hasnt let me down yet

Thanks for all the help on this guys... I might have to try the Cateye Astrale 8.... for the money and features it might be the one to get.
I am curious... how do you guys utilize the cadence future... I am sure every one has a preference.. |
I have the Sigma BC-1606L. It's a really nice computer and does as much (or more) as the Astrale 8. I got mine for $30 at Excel Sports. The only real downside is that the current speed only displays in increments of 0.5 units.

Garmin 305 replaced my specialized computer.
