Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Forget to tighten down the bars at the stem and leave the multi-tool at home.

Works real well. I know from 20 miles of experience this morning. Actually turned out to be a good ride anyway.

Just don't sue me if you get hurt.

I'll stay in the tops then.

Why didn't you just do that or stay on the stem?

The bars were loose but more or less able to stay in place. Thus, I didn't have a problem riding normal at all - except to consciously think about keeping "light hands" while on the hoods.

Reminded me of the Medicus golf club that has the hinge that bends if you don't swing it just right.

Should've gone no-handed all the way home. While eating a sandwich and chatting on your cell phone for a bit of extra-cool.

So, I guess sprinting was a "no-go" then, eh?

I know a guy who bought one of those Medicus clubs. He actually smacked himself in the back of the head behind his left ear during his backswing a few times. Don't ask me how he managed that one, but he did.

He sold it.

+1 - I would have ridden the whole thing gripping the stem. it would have felt "natural" to me.

BTW - I'll keep my eyes peeled for a Medicus tomorrow morning...I scored tickets to the PGA Championship 1st round. Free. Tiger and Phil in the same group, both on fire. *shiver* I'm sure I won't see anything, but I can say I was there...

...and get drunk on a Thursday during work hours....

^^^ be sure to yell 'It's in the HOLE' after every swing so we can hear you on tv...

of course, you'll have to shout over the other 20,000 morons doing the same thing... LOL

There's a noontime group In DC here that does intervals. It's roughly a three mile loop that starts off each loop slow and picks up the pace gradually until we hit maybe 32 mph on the back side. Once my bars came loose from the stem while I was in the middle of the pack. All I could do was stop pedalling and coast. I had people yelling to me about loosing the rest of the group.

I just did the something similar recently Rad. I put on new bars and went for just a quick spin in the neighborhood to make sure the position was OK. A few miutes into it and I really felt like I was reaching. I thought to myself, "man I could of swore I put the hoods higher up on the bars than this". I get home, get off and noticed that the bars had rotated down wards, a lot actually. Needless to say, they are now in the correct position and the stem bolts are torqued properly.

Try doing what you did today and also loosen the seatpost, now that would be a workout!

55/Rad, I'm curious why they were loose in the first place.

Sounds like Hains Point, which can be a bit hectic even without equipment problems...
