Hit mine yesterday
I hit a new high yesterday, 45.8 mph. I wasn't even pedaling that hard. For the locals, I was coming out of Harriman State Park; East bound on Gate Hill toward Call Hollow. The top part of the hill is kinda lousy asphalt, but about halfway down it turns real smooth....

Cool. It's a rare day that I hit speeds that high. I haven't hit 50 MPH since June.
Ever considered tucking into a really aero position rather than pedaling? At those speeds, unless you're really strong, you may be better off tucking.

I freak at 35 now because I don't ride as much. It's not the speed that bothers me as much as the soccer mom on her cellphone pulling out in front of me. I remember the days of doing 45 on group rides and trying to squeeze out more on downhills. I should add if I had crashed at that speed i'd probably never ride again.

I'm relying on gravity and mass to assist me LOL....I did tuck some, but started pedalling too late. I can start pedalling about 30 yards sooner and get tucked better and I'm sure I can crack 50....maybe this weekend..hope those Rolfs don't self destruct!!!

I can taste 55!
I hit 53.5 mph in Northbridge, Massachusetts shaking out my new Parlee Z3! It was completely steady and predictable. Now I've gotta break 55, it's so close. I can hear Sammy Hagar in my head...! I have broken 55 on the back side of Mt. Wachusett (not the access road) but that was a few years ago, and not on this bike.

That's nothing. One of the people in my last Baldy group ride (Pico) hit a claimed 1898 MPH. That's, umm, really REALLY fast!

I've gone 40+, maybe even 50 on a mountain bike before. I was tucked and pedaling in the highest gear down a mountain (on the way home after actual mountain biking, this was on pavement). I can't verify the speed to an exact number, but the cars weren't going much faster than me, let's say that. It was hella scary cause those bikes were low quality and how can I trust that they've ever checked them... and if I fell I'd wipe out into a big ditch filled with rocks. This was on multiple miles of downhill, so you have to maintain that madman pace too.

48.2mph is the fastest I've hit downhill. Haven't gone near that in the last 6 months or so though. Low 40s is about the max I've hit recently...I've lost some weight though so that's probably to blame.

62 coming down the highway from Mt. Hood Ski Resort in Oregon. But I hit 45 every day riding to work, as I live at the top of a steep hill. It's a bear going back up...

I think I've been in the 60's once before. I didn't have a computer but it wouldn't have mattered as I was too scared to look down at anything. There's a loooong hill on 2222 in Austin that is strait. I was riding with El Diablo (here on the board). He said his computer said 53mph and I dropped him like a bad habit. I'm a lot bigger and the only advantage that gives me is decending.

I hit 46.2 mph the other day coasting down a hill, sitting up in my hoods.....would've been over 50 had I gotten somewhat aero.
My highest speed has been 55.8 mph though....that was moving right along.
