Yep I'm already signed up for the Metric so I sure hope the weather holds. I don't mind getting a little wet but t-storms are more than I want to deal with.

There was a similar forecast for the Montauk Century (also run by Glen) but all I noticed were a few drops as I rolled past the beach in Montauk. The East End seems to have it's own climate.

I'm also from LI but not doing the ride. The B group of my club LIBC did a century 3 weeks ago to Montauk of which I opted on only 65 miles. Well good luck and hope the weather holds up.

I'll be there, doing all 100mi w/ two women from New York Cycle Club. We're going to drive out Saturday night & stay in a hotel. If it rains a little Sunday, them's the breaks. If it rains A LOT Sunday we're gonna drive to the Bedell Cellars vineyard and drink Merlot until we pass out.

Boy am i glad i went with the weather forecast and didnt register for this at the deadline. Heavy rain all morning, paying 75 bucks to ride 100 miles in a downpour is not my idea of fun!

Well, I ended up bailing at the 80 mile mark as we swung past the high school. I had a good 35 dry miles in the beginning, then about 15 miles in pouring rain at 57 degrees as I went down to wildwood and back. I was a bit chilly. then about 15 miles in on and off light rain at about 63 degrees; not enough to completely shake the chill. People were bailing on a bus at the last rest stop at mile 67, I was shivering a bit while standing there. Most others were planning on riding 13 more miles and bailing at the 80 mile mark to the high school including me. But I warmed up and started feeling real good on that last stretch. I almost decided to do the last 20, but the weather was deteriorating again. Glad I rode though, still enjoyed about 40 - 50 miles of it.
And if the young lady with the same gloves who rode the last 13 with me happens to read this, thanks, we had a good rythm going there! Hope the trip back on the bus was good.
Go figure, numb fingers trying to shift in wet 57 degrees in August!

I bailed at Wildwood. It kind of sucks leaving a ride when you're not even tired at all, but I ride for fun and fitness and spending another 4+ hours in the rain serves neither. I waited a while but it just kept pouring and I kept getting colder. I actually like riding in a little summer rain now and then but not the kind where you lose the whole shoulder to flooding and see lightning across the fields. Took me hours to drive home afterwards in the traffic and I still wasn't dried out when I got there. Throw in a broken spoke and I think this was my saddest ride in a long time. But I guess I'll be back next year . . .

It started to pour as we were leaving the 2nd rest area (approx. mile 40?) and kept raining...well, all freakin' day, obviously. We finally bailed when we got to the 3rd rest area (supposed to be mile 67, except, because our cue sheets disintegrated in the rain *and* the pink paint that marked the route turned out to be somewhat water soluable, we took a wrong turn & wound up with 69.5 miles on our odometers by the time we pulled into the parking lot and climbed on the SAG bus).
Did any folks actually complete all 100 miles? After we got back to the highschool, showered, changed, & ate some burgers, we went wine tasting at the Bedell Cellars & Osprey's Dominion vinyards. And as we were leaving there we could *still* see stragglers cycling in on Route 25! Brave, brave riders!

I stayed at my Dad's place out in East Marion and when I drove there at about 2:30, I saw people riding back from Orient. Also saw some more when I left about 5:00. So yeah, looks like some went the distance!

we got a motel room a mile away from the HS (got in a few rounds of miniature golf Saturday nite at the drossos motel - kitsch heaven!!). We were doing the 66 miler but bailed a beeline to our hot showers and clean clothes (my jersey is STILL dirty after two launderings).
In spite of the rain and disappointment in not making it to Orient Pt Park we had fun.
see y'all at the TA Century this weekend
