Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pics of the new ride...finally (Not Modem Friendly)

It took me a while to get the tires, and a few more to actually go to the shop to put them on (since I don't have a pump, I went to use theirs). Turns out I installed one wrong, so the tube had a leak. Since I was at the shop, I bought a new tube, and had the guy install it, showing me his tricks of how to do it.

Anyways, my new tires are on, and though there are just a couple more little things to do (like replace the bar tape), it's almost done.

Hope you enjoy it.

(Oh, and those are the hoses to the sprinklers...plus a cord and some random piece of wood...just ignore them)

Very nice! I'd love to find an older lugged frame to build up.

Now that's Italian! Very nice!

I'm down here in Chatsworth this weekend - and tempted to see this baby in person.

BTW - post it along with the story in the Classic and Vintage forum.

I like it a lot!!

Man you absolutely must get a pump. I think a frame mounted pump(like a Zefal)...under the top tube would look kool on that bike.

Looks like you cleaned her up a bit. Didn't you post photos of this bike before you bought it?

See ya out on the open roads!

Yep, the old pics are somewhere on the forum. I spent several hours (at least 4) cleaning up the superficial rust and wiping down the dirt.

I'm checking out a few possibilites for pumps, but still haven't narrowed it down. I'll probably order one next week, cause my bike shop just has overpriced floor pumps and overpriced CO2 pumps.

Is the drive train tuned up?...and have you taken her out on the roads yet?
The tires match really well.
I like the white saddle.
What color for new bar tape? white works well with that bike.
Need a saddle bag too.
How much did you pay for the bike?
Why in hell would the prior owner want to sell that baby**********??
That bike would make me want to go out and do a century tomorrow.

I'm in the process of tinkering with the gears. Already have almost 100 miles on it.

Thanks and thanks
I made the mistake of buying red tape, but I'm going to exchange for white tape. I didn't have my bike with me, and I forgot that white looks better.

A saddle bag will come in due time...meaning probably next week; maybe the week after.
I paid $400 for it. $100 less than the asking price. The guy who sold it had a back injury. He had pain when riding in a forward position, so he just recently got a recumb.

I'll do one...in like 6 months. I'm new to the sport, and I'm doing my first 20 mile ride tomorrow morning.

I want to say that a person that cannot change a tire does not deserve that bike, but that would just be my angry, poor, sour grapes personality talking.

So I'll just say the bike is a beauty and I am envious.

Haha. Sorry, it's tough to change a tire the first time. Especially when it's a Pro2Race, which even the shop said is a hard tire to get on.
But I won't hold it against you.

Honestly I thought I was going to see another set of beautiful carbon play things. When your first pic popped up I actually said "whoa" out-loud.

Nice.

It definitely has been a summer of classic builds. We must give this era a proper name.

Although not exactly the same, I've seen this one several times - enough to have saved it as an example of a bike done right. My apologies for not knowing who owns it - but if you read this - it's simply gorgeous.
