Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

troll much? a bike is a bike....in the upper levels and at the lower levels all brands perform comparably....

some just happen to do so with more character....i.e. Bianchi...

By me the Bianchis are more favorably priced than Trek or Felt....Just sayin'. I had a steel Bianchi and loved everything except the squeaky cantilevers...sold it for a bike with more tire clearence, but I still have an affinity for the Bianchi.

You have a nice bike.

She has a nicer bike.

She values herself for what she possesses, not for what she is.

It isn't worth the effort to even worry about this for a second.

Just go out and enjoy your bike.

steel (stl)
n.
A generally hard, strong, durable, malleable alloy of iron and carbon, usually containing between 0.2 and 1.5 percent carbon, often with other constituents such as manganese, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, copper, tungsten, cobalt, or silicon, depending on the desired alloy properties, and widely used as a structural material.

+1

There are probably people with bikes double the weight of the Bianchi with triple the amount of miles than the Fuji.

Ms Stacey, far from elitist...more like blue collar frugal. Or as my daughters call me...cheap. My Bianchi ran me $900., her Fuji cost her $2600. I have always been of the opinion that I am riding a damn decent enty level bike, nothing more. I had been riding my 25 plus year old Yokota with Shimano Exage drive train...truly entry level and still would be riding it if not for a cracked frame. Hell, if I truly wanted to be elitist, I would be riding the new Cadillac bike!

Steel is nice to ride and all but face facts it isn't the material of choice anymore. That said you can still build up a light steel bike if you use light parts. I've picked up a 16 pound Waterford. That Eros is not the lightest bike out there but that isn't the point. The point is that somebody was being a tool. Having a nicer bike didn't make that person a better rider or (obviously) a nicer human being.

Also, WOULDA COULDA SHOUDA...you got to make the comeback when it counts or you lose, and in this case, the OP lost. My advice, spend some time watching House. The doc on that show has no filter, just says whatever he thinks, the OP needs to get some of that.
Clark Priebe often wins large USCF Masters and Pro/1/2 races on the same day. For example, won the Masters race and then took 2nd at the Elgin Cycling Classic a couple weeks ago, in Elgin, IL. Beat the best amateur cycling team in the US, ABD (athletes by design), by half a lap. There were a lot of Mesa and Bianchi-Grand Performance guys there as well. Has more than 20 wins this season in both racing classes.

Imagine what she would have thought of my old Bianchi with the crappy paint job - but I would not trade it for any other bike...I'd trade my $1500 Fuji first.

She just grabbed your bike out of nowhere? To me that might warrant a chainring to the teeth. Also, keep an eye out for a carbon Fuji on Craigslist in the next few months. Just an idea.

Ow, that might hurt.

Lamplight, this is off topic, but this thread's so huge I figure it's okay. Those are some amazing pictures in your sig (especially the red Bianchi that I couldn't get out of my mind!) - what sort of camera are you using? Sweet bkes, anyway.

Thanks! I use a Canon Digital Rebel with the stock 18-55mm kit lens. It has served me well for 2 years so far.

I would have started off with " Don't you know it's very rude to pick up someone else's bike without asking first". then "Any experienced cyclist would know that."
Then.... "Now I'm going to pick up your bike without asking and tell you how lousy it is for no reason at all".
Then when she won't let you, Ask "why not, you can do it to me? " Have her try and defend the logic for that.

If someone actually said something like that to me I would probably burst out laughing.

That carbon Fuji frame ought to last at least twice as long as her interest in cycling.

The fact that this upset you is actually the most disturbing part of this post. A comment like that from a total Fredrique like her isn't worth one calorie of concern wattage from your bike weenie furnace.

Enjoy your Bianchi. 853 ROCKS. For the record I ride Carbon (Cannondale Six13) Titanium, Aluminum (my old Cannondale) - and of course my trusty Jamis Dragon Reynolds 853 MTB....

The Eros uses 631 tubing. Ah well. Still good stuff.
I wish I had an 853 frame; I've never actually had the privilege to ride one. They seem awesome.

I used to think Bianchi's were the lamest bikes around with that ugly puke green. Now I'd love a Bianchi cross bike to beat around town on.
