Good place to purchase a new saddle?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Good place to purchase a new saddle?

I'm looking for a new saddle and would like to possibly experiment. Does anyone know of any online or mail-order retailer that will allow you to use a saddle for a day or two and if not liked sent back or exchanged out? Our LBS has very little selection and even less road saddles. Thanks

Performance and Nashbar are okay with returns. But with ANY place, you're going to eat the shipping charges.

I recommend you do a search and read EVERYTHING about what people think about the particular saddle you're considering and then choose a saddle or two from there.

Wallingford offers a 6-month return guarantee on Brooks saddles. Great small business to deal with.

If you want to experiment, use the bike shop and let them know that is what you want to do. Or buy used on ebay until you find the one you like, then you can ride it until it dies and get a new one of the same model. Also for experimentation, you can get the cheaper version (Cr-Mo vs Ti rails) for several models to save if you go the ebay route.

Does anyone else get grossed out at the thought of buying a used saddle marinated in the sweat from another rider from the worst place on the body to exract juices, or is it just me? I'll drop a couple extra dimes to get a fresh saddle

I agree. That's where I got my Brooks B-17. I had to talk with them a few times and they were easy to get a hold of and very nice.
