if you are a sesoned racer i have some winter training questions,,,,
i would like to really work hard this winter, and hopefully do well in the spring racing. i did some crits this year decided i like it and plan to do road next year also. i want to know,,,,, should i get a high end trainer with a comp that has feedback (( tacx etc)), or a trainer that uses a pc and has on screen race simulation etc that records feedback and etc. or should i buy a used spin bike and some spinervals dvd's, or dvd's and a basic good trainer . i plan to ride much as i can through winter but really never have bought a trainer and i know that and diet and using workout machine for my overall physique are part of my plans. i also would like to hire a coach or are there any good software programs that will guide me through to a goal based on my data input from my riding. also do trainers used on a bike for long term use have any wear on stress on bike frames? i know they are hard on tires but i know you can get a tire for that. anyway any help here would be great, what should i do here what have you done what is the best way to get stronger when you cant ride outside, also how do you ride when yo can only get a out 30 min a day in the winter till the weekend. what methods did yoiu use in the winter to emerge ready in the spring .

I know you only asked for seasoned racers opinions.... but here is my .02.
Sounds like you are planning on spending some serious cash. I would persnally, buy a trainer( I love my cycleops magneto), a powertap, and a HRM. With these devices, you will be able to train indoors on your trainer at maximum benefit by looking at your power output and HR. Then, when spring rolls around and you train outdoors, you can train the same way because your powertap and HR< can go with you If you go a different route, you may regret it. Indoor training is VERY boring, and I personally think the versatility of the powertap and HRM will far outweigh the tad bit of extra cost.
