Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mission Bay Multi-Sport in Elgin is good too, plus, lots of sweet bikes to look at.

Saw North Aurora in your tag... Try "The Bike Rack" in St Charles. They have the Fit Kit System. I still use a Fit Kit readout form the 80's as a base. I think they have a Serotta system as well, but it has been a while since I've been there...

Maybe after you get the bike fit correctly, you can join the local Northern Illinois members in the North Shore Century on Sept 17th. Hope to see you there.

We will probably meet around registration around 7:00 and shoot for a 7:15 start, this will depend on when the guys coming from a little farther can get there. Keep your eyes posted at the beginning of next week for a thread to get everyone organized. There is also another ride that is not too far out of the city that some of the Bike Forum members from the area are organizing.

evanston fit

I had a fit session at Turin Bicycle Shop in Evanston. I live in Los Angeles and dream of a shop this friendly and knowledgable. $40 for an hour + of fit and information. Chicago seems to have a lot of nice shops though. Good luck.

They're probably out of your way, but I go to Kegel's bike shop in Rockford. They're nice, knowledgable people. www.kegelsbikes.com

Thanks. I am going to be a teacher, so I'm not really aiming to make the big bucks, but hopefully I will love going to work every day. And if I can do some coaching, maybe try to get a cycling club organized, all the better!
