Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Very annoying rattle

I've had this very annoying rattle the past few weeks. I only hear when I'm on a rough road and it doesn't matter if I'm pedaling or not. The bottle cages are tight and removing the pump and the utility bag doesn't make a difference. It sounds like it's coming the bottom bracket/rear DER area, rather than the top of the bike. I thought that it might be something in the frame, but when I turned it upside down, I didn't hear anything.

It's driving me nuts. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Cliff

Do you have those tube stem nuts tightened (if you have them on)? Are the cable housing hitting each other when on rough roads? Are the cable housing hitting the frame? Those are my typical causes for rattles that I've come across. Now if you said you heard a 'click' - that's a whole new ball game.

Saddlebags, I did find the tube stem nuts were totally loose. I'm sure that that's the cause of the noise. Thanks!!!

I used to have an annoying rattle coming from my headlight. I wrapped electrical tape around the light and silenced it.

Do you have any lights or other add-ons on the bike at the moment?
