What do you think this bike is worth?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

IDK if this was worth it or not. If someone out there with more experience could take a look at it and tell me what they think it is worth id appreciate it.

No way it is near US$750. Someone put old 8-speed Campagnolo Veloce on an old 3.0 frame and wants a big return on it. $500 tops for this one IMO.

My favorite part of that ad:

This bike is the sexiest ride you'll find on Ebay - It is a real head turner!

By definition its worth $749.99; the price at which a willing buyer and a willing seller agreed to exchange it.
Personally, I think that was a tad high. You have to be careful chasing things on Ebay. Easy to get caught up in the frenzy and overpay.

Things on Ebay usually sell for what they're worth. The price for this bike strikes me as kind of steep; you should be able to get a CAAD4 or 5 in good shape for that kind of dough. Maybe it's the Campy, or the good pictures...

Also, $70 for shipping is a slight gouge... actual shipping cost for a bike is closer to $40.

I would have guessed ~$500 for this bike. But Ebay is the most accurate reflection of the market I can think of as long as there's no shenanigans involved. If you are the winning bidder, remember there is a another person out there who was willing to pay $740 for this bike...

That frame is in really nice shape. Looks like it's new.

Except when the seller is not happy with the bidding and pulls the auction.

Right, shenanigans. Or if the seller's friend is shill bidding against you. Or if the buyer's friend puts in a huge bid to drive the auction price way up and scare off buyers, then retracts his bid just before auction end and lets the buyer win.

But a fair and competently run Ebay auction is an excellent indicator of the current market value of pretty much anything.

I have to disagree. I've seen some things that sell used for more than they do brand new (not collectibles either), which I can only assume was due to anxious bidders going up "just another dollar" to beat the previous bid. I've also seen things sell for next to nothing just because there was only 1 interested buyer (opening bid wins even if the winner would have been willing to bid 10 times that).

I do think auctions in general give a good indication of what people are willing to pay for things, but it can vary greatly.

Anyway, $750 seems rather high to me as well. I recently bought a newer bike with 9 speed Veloce for $600.

Isn't that a down-tube shifting frame that someone's added newer shifters to??? I wouldn't pay more than$500 for it... if even that.

I sold an 8 year old Bike Friday Tandem for $2200, which was $100 more than I paid for it new 8 years ago. the bike was in good but not great shape. I was astonished by how high the bidding got.

Correction: it is a newer 2.8 frame. I missed the rear brake cable under the top tube.
