TAGT (I know, I know, yet another Garmin thread)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

YAGT (I know, I know, yet another Garmin thread)

I tried posting in another thread, but my replies are up top and I don't think anyone can see it.

My question: Someone said the Garmin 305 can tell you when to turn like a car GPS. How do I get mine to do it? I have done courses before (I ride a route, download it in Training Center, upload it as course), but it doesn't say turn in 100 feet or anything like that.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

You may have to add the turns into the courses. Ive never tried it with a course built from actually riding it.

If you load it up in Training Center, look at the course and see if it has arrows at the turns. If it doesn't, add them at the appropriate places. Then, on the Bike1 screen it will show the direction arrow at the bottom of the display or you can page through the screens with the MODE button to get to the course display screen and it will show you the next upcoming turn, what direction it is and how far away it is.

Haven't used courses, but when I use the return to start navigation feature it tells me where to turn without any programming.
