Birmingham, AL Bicycle Century Roll Call

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We can't. We have a carpetbagger yankee come down and mark the course for us.

No, I heard it was brutal. I choose to do the club century because I was hoping it would be a little cooler temperature wise. I have ridden about 30 miles of the course and it is constant rolling hills. My plan is to relax and enjoy it because it really isn't a fast course.

Yeah it was, especially after just moving here and not yet being used to HILLS. I really hope to make it Saturday, have heard it is a much "nicer" route to ride?!

This was my first century and I really sucked the last 20 miles or so. There were no huge climbs but it seemed like one hill after another with 5-7% grades.. Almost 6000' of climbing according to my buddies Garmin Edge. Did the first 50 way too fast which contributed to my sucking at the end.

At least you completed it! Congrats! I wouldn't have expected it have to been that much climbing though.
