Specialized Roubaix FACT6 vs FACT7 carbon?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized Roubaix FACT6 vs FACT7 carbon?

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could tell me the real world differences between the carbon frames on a Roubaix Elite with FACT 6r and the higher end Roubaixs with FACT 7r carbon. I have an Elite size 58 now. How much lighter is the 7r frame? Is there much difference in the ride? I was thinking of upgrading the wheels I have (Mavic pros with 105 hubs). Would it be worth it or should I just get a higher end Roubaix? I'd really like the S-Works but that's not in the budget. I bought mine used so I don't think I'd loose much $ if I sold it and upgraded to say a Roubaix Expert.

Thanks!
Tim

The higher end frame is a little lighter and a little stiffer...but wait for the 2007 models to come if you plan to upgrade. The Expert and above frames are of the new design and are a single monocoque rather than the triple monocoque used on all of the current line. This frame is even lighter and stronger than the current models and is supposed to damp even more vibrations while being stiffer in the BB. Honestly between the 06 Pro/Expert frame and the 06 Comp/Elite frame given identical component setups you would be hard pressed to feel a difference.

When I bought mine I could have had any of the 06 models (well other than the S-Works) and also there was a 05 Pro and Comp...I picked the 2006 Comp because I felt it was the sweet spot in the line for the components that were stock (which I sold most of) and the frame...honestly for me it came down to the fact that I liked the Comp paint job better than the one on the Expert (I stipped the bike and rebuilt with Campy so the components weren't a big concern).

Thanks, I didn't think there was much difference other than a little weight. To be honest, the paint was one reason I was wanting to change frames. I'd want the frame to be "better" too to make it worth it. I think I'll wait, save some $, and check out the new ones.

Well here are the 2007s in the UK...not sure if the paint schemes will be different but the frame is the same.

S-Works

Pro

Expert
