Roller Reccomendations

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Roller Reccomendations

Looking for quality, with an emphasis on reasonable price.

I don't even know how much a decent set costs me. What makes one nicer than another, just better quality bearings or components?

Educate me.

i got the travel trac technique rollers from performance last year for +/-110$.

the quality is good, probably even better than the PVC performance rollers i bought back in '91. not as easy to use as my krietlers, but those are back in the US.

+1

I own Kreitler and have used the travel trac technique rollers and find the travel trac on par with the Kreitler.

botto - I would be interested to hear what you mean by not as easy to use as the Kreitler.

/\ nothing more than the fact that the kreitlers have a bigger/wider diameter drum than the travel trac.

I've used the Travel Trac's from Performance over 70 times in the past 9 months and they are holding up fine. Doesn't seem like there is much that could go wrong with them (except for maybe the bearings wearing out some day). They fold up and can be put away when not in use. They're reasonably quiet so I can still watch a movie or television (with the volume up a bit). I can't speak for the Kreitlers but I'm glad I saved a couple hundred and bought the Travel Trac's.

related question

I just got the traval trac rollers from performance a few days ago, of course the 20% off coupon came out like 2 days later....

What PSI do most people run when using rollers? I usually run about 100 on both my front and rear when riding outside, but when I used the rollers I could see my front time compressing....FWIW I'm 200lbs and running 700x23s

Oh, and I was totally out of control....I was in a doorway luckly...when it came time to stop I managed to hold the door frame and unclip from my pedals...so there I sat my butt on the seat both feet free and of course I could not reach the ground, I managed to just get my toe on the frame of the rollers but it was bizarre. I'm sure if my wife was watching it would have been very amusing.

I run normal tire pressure on the rollers (105-110psi, I'm 180lbs). You'll see the tire compression more I think just because of the angle you're viewing it from. If you want more of a workout without adjusting anything but tire pressure, drop the pressure down to about 95psi and feel the resistance climb.

I have Minoura Mag Rollers and have been very happy with mine. The resistance unit makes some noise every now and then but it provides me with plenty of room to change up the workout.
