Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Speaking of cold weather clothing......

Looks like I'll be needing some arm and knee warmers. I know some come in plain lycra, some with fleece linings etc.

What brands/fabrics do ya'll prefer?

Depends on the temperature and what else you wear. A little bit of fleece on the inside gives you a wider temperature range.

I have a set of Pearl Izumi that I like.

I have knee warmers from performance. I've worn them from temps in the upper 30s to mid 60s and have found them comfortable enough.

I also have the basic nashbar armwarmers and have only worn them once on a chilly 56 degree morning. They felt kind of cold actually.

I have arm and leg warmers from Performance, and I don't wear either all that much. I thought I would find myself needing them at the beginning of cold rides and then taking them off as I warmed up. Only did this once or twice; I usually just keep them on. So now I tend to use tights over my shorts (and don't have to worry about the bands of the leg warmers rolling), and I've been using Under Armour (or equivalent) long sleeve base layer under my jersey. I add additional base layers if it is colder, plus a light wind jacket.

Fleece tights from foxwear (plus shirts and jacket as well). All Polartec, great price, custom sizing. (No affiliation, just a satisfied customer).

I'm a HUGE fan of DeFeet's Kneekers and similar armwarmers. They are made of Merino wool and they are super and non itchy. I also have some made of skimpy lycra that I seldom wear.
