Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Alta Race Wheels and valve extenders

For those using the Reynolds Alta Race wheels, do you guys run extended valve tubes, or do normal tubes work?

I have a pair on order, so I'm wondering if I need to get valve extenders or special tubes with extra long valve stems?

Thanks.

I would go with the 60mm stems

A good example of the different sizes available:

Just use a longer stem. I always use long stems even on my low rim wheels. That way If Im riding with a buddy that has deep rim wheels he can mooch a spare. It is also easier using your floor pump because you have more stem to hold and you don't risk breaking the valve as easily.

I'd bet a 48 mm stem will go through there (the rim's only 30 mm deep) If not get the 60 mm stems, and avoid valve extenders they're a pain. I keep one in my bag, but I try not to use it.

48mm valves work fine with those wheels.
