Interbike coming to Sin City..again. Hah!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

To lose money and catch a venerial disease?

That place is incredible, the slot machines say quite plainly, "1 in 10 plays pays out", and people pump money into them all day at a 90% loss rate.

A US scientific society had their annual meeting in Vegas in 2003. By card tracking, they discovered that scientists don't gamble (maybe 'cause they can do math?). They were told they could no longer book a meeting anywhere in Nevada (5,000 attendees). Now we're in Big Sky, Montana.

Actually, DocRay, in most larger casinos the payout rates for slot machines are well over 90%, if memory serves me. But just think about the profits if they simply keep, say, 2% of the money that people pump into those machines! Most state lotteries, in comparison, have payout rates under 60%, which makes lottery tickets a terrible form of gambling.

You don't have to gamble, and you can always wear a condom you know..

Why are you so against other people having a good time?

Well now that it finally clicked I am a bit bummed my wife is in Mexico this week rather than Las Vegas. Well ok so I wanted to go to Cancun too so there are more than one reason but if she was in Vegas I would demand she find a way in.

But back to the real question...how the heck do you rationalize a "National" buisness meeting in Mexico? I have been tryign to figure that one out ever since she told me she was going.

Sorry back to your normally scheduled thread.

he's not against people having a good time. he's just against people - americans in particular. because we all carry guns and love starting wars.

I'm with DocRay,

I can see why some people like vegas. but I don't understand the fascination with the place some people have. And I can't understand why people who like Vegas can't understand why some people don't like it at all. (they must be boorish whipped married types)

That picture of Vegas that Sincitycyler put up gives me a headache just looking at it.

Me thinks you a) never been to vegas b) went to vegas once and had a very bad experience or c) have never left your parent's basement and think that "shut up" is a bad word. Hmmm....maybe there's more to the fact that you have ned flanders as your avatar.

I just went to Vegas for the first time this weekend for a wedding. I went expecting it to be trashy and I was pretty surprised to see how nice it was. The architecture in the Paris and Caesar's Palace is incredible (As my professors in architecture told me, "If you're going to lie, lie convincingly." I didn't gamble but I found out the expression "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." is a description of what happens to your money. It's quite spendy.

I saw people coming in to the hotel yesterday for interbike. Overweight men in cycling spandex going into a posh casino hotel just doesn't look good. Men everywhere need to watch a few James Bond movies to see how it's done.

True dat.
Vegas used be classier as far as dressing up, especially in the evening. Men used to wear tuxes or jacket and a tie at the least and the women wore nice evening gowns.

That all changed thanks to Steve Wynn's attempts to "Disneyworld" this town in the late 80's (bring your kids!). Being a slob is now acceptable as long as you bring your $$.

The players used to respect dealers more too. Now all of these California punks come over and all try to act like Vince Vaughn in "Swingers"- such wannabes, it's sickening.

Diamonds are Forever" is a good example - a dapper Sean Connery playing craps at the old International Hotel- now known as the Las Vegas Hilton (Elvis sold out over 10,000 show in a row there).

Some people work the convention as porters. You could try to sneak in wearing black dress pants and a white tux shirt w/bow tie.

I know for a fact, this has worked in the past .

I always enjoy going to the town. My only beef is the street trash that hangs out on every corner passing out the porn cards. The most I have ever gambled in Vegas was $5.00 and that was in the quarter slots. I made that $5.00 last long enough to get a few "free" mixed drinks though so in a way I did win I can't think of a better place to visit for a few days to catch a few shows, do some major people watching and stuff your face at buffet's.

I am not sure what the dealers have ever done to earn the respect. Respect isn't free.
You’re a dealer Sin aren't you? Don't take this as a slam but I have never seen you post on here showing much respect to anyone so why should people give you the respect in return? There are certain people I automatically respect due to there choice of jobs but being a card dealer is not one of those professions.

A good Blackjack dealer can make you win or lose without the Eye-in-the-Sky seeing anything. Remember that next time you play here.

So your saying I should respect a guy because he can cheat at a "game" and make it look legit? I have never thrown a even a dollar on a table and I do not plan on ever doing so. Like I said though, I do enjoy Vegas for a lot of what it has to offer. Gambling is just not one of them....for me at least.

I deal mostly Craps. Why don't you respect dealers? We make on average anywhere from $40,000 to $100,000 annually (that's what Wynn Resort croupiers made last year!).

We also have to take alot of **** from drunk customers who are chasing the money they have dumped. For the most part, keeping a happy face on the game is tough when people are loud, drunk, obnoxious, blowing cigarette smoke in your face, etc.

All we ask that if you do win, show us a little luv baby

I don't NOT respect dealers either. I think it is a fine profession but your comment "The players used to respect dealers more too" sounded like you expected people to respect you just because you were a dealer. My point that I tried to make (but failed miserably at) was that some jobs earn my respect right off...Policeman, Fireman, Teacher, OTR Drivers....etc...are some of those jobs. Tell me your a kindergarten teacher making $30,000 to teach our children and I will respect you right off the bat. Tell me your a dealer at a card game....no instant respect from me. The fact that you make from $40,000 to $100,000 has no bearing on if I respect a person or not. My local drug dealer makes that much and I don't respect him. Don't take it personaly Sin....I don't even know you. I am sure your a fine person. I only know you from what I read on here.
