Zipp Carbon/Carbon Brake Block lifespan?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Zipp Carbon/Carbon Brake Block lifespan?

Hi Folks

I have just been riding this brake blocks about a week now. Maybe..150 miles on them. Look at how much material is already coming off them! What you see there is only part of whats ground off already. Do any you ride this and can you confirm/deny this as the expected behavior for these pads. I mean they are cheaper than replacing my rims, but gosh!

i've never had the opportunity to try it for myself, but looking at your pictures, i can see that it must be true.

I have no experience with Zipp pads, but that sure doesn't look good. Must be a real soft pad material they're using. Do they work well? Considering the cost, they ought to, especially with that short a lifespan.

Theyre not too expensive, $40 for a full set up, but if I go through that in 200 miles its still more expensive than gasoline

Also interesting to note that the rear one is shedding less, like you might expect, considering the different strain placed on them.

Hi,

Have had the same brake blocks on Campy brakes on my race bike for 3-1/2 years. Of course my race-only bike doesn't have a lot of mileage but braking tends to be much harder on tight criterium courses. Anyway, your photos look like my pads after every race. So far so good on not having to replace them yet.

I also have a set on my TT bike for those times when cross-winds are a factor and I end up using my 303s instead of my Renn disc and Mavic deep aero wheel. Of course the TT bike sees minimal brake appplications.
