Thomson Elite Seat post: anyone with the setback model?
 

I just bought a Thomson Elite (non-setback model) and from my previous calculations figured I would not need the setback. I ibstalled it tonight and found that I am 5-10mm off from my original position. I didn't have time to take it for a test tide (will tomorrow).

My question is how many T*****n users use the "setback" model? I personally didn't care for the aesthetics and that is why I went I wanted to try the "non-setback" model.

Does anyone have any photos of the "setback" model ON a bicycle. If I have to return this I want to know what the "setback" model looks like and decide it I should try that or go with another brand.

I have an elite setback though it's not on a bike at the moment. I used it for a month or so and found I didn't need it, so I went back to a standard elite. Over all, I didn't really like the appearance but it didn't bother me too much.

I don't have a photo but I could rough one together quickly if no one posts one.

I was going to buy a Thomson setback (layback) post but I haven't figured out if the setback is as much as my Easton. I have my saddle slammed back as far as it will go so I can't tolerate a seat post that is set forward.

That said, I have the Thomson stem and the workmanship is outstanding. I would love to mach up my stem and seat post.

To be honest, I'll probably just buy one anyway and see how it fits.

The setback makes up for the setback that is standard / necessary in the standard "uni-bolt" design.

I can't see it when I'm riding and I doubt others can either. They are excellent seat posts.

Maybe it would help to think of it as being a member of an exclusive club whose members own premium and uniquely designed seatposts. I think they are cool, but better yet, they work and are high quality.

FSA makes a carbon fiber seatpost with 2-bolt micro adjustment that looks like everybody else's seatpost
(straight).

I got one on my lates build I dont mind the way it looks. But some people hate it.

I thought it looked good and the seatpost works great. Sold the frame last year and now the seatpost is on my new Bianchi Pista Concept track bike. Sorry, not photos of this one yet.

I have the setback Thomson post (in black, fwiw) on different three bikes...will post pix later.

I have the setback model on my road bike and prefer the look to the standard model. To each his own, I guess.

I have one on mine and really like it.

I'm not sure which Easton post you have, but I went from an EC70 to the Thomson setback precisely because with the Easton my saddle was too far back. By eye, the Easton setback is about 1.5"... and the Thomson is about .75" Roughly half way between the easton and a zero-setback post. If you're all the way back on the Easton, I think you'll find the Thomson is too far forward for you.

Thanks I_bRAD, just the information I needed. I have long legs and especially long femurs. In order to get a decent COPS fit I have to have the saddle set back. My Easton post is the EA70. I don't trust carbon fiber seatposts.

I'm not a fan of carbon seatposts myself. The only reason I had that one was 'cause it was the only seatpost in the correct dia. they had when I got my bike and I couldn't stand to wait a couple more days to get it together. I probably would have lived with it, but I didn't care for the amount of setback on it so I decided to just go with what I should have got in the first place :o

I have the setback in black. The reason is looks funky is because the "setback" occurs in the post, not at the head. But once you hang a seatbag from your saddle no one can tell the difference anyway.
