Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wear what you want. The same folks that say they don't are probably wearing some MLB/NFL/NASCAR hat while typing their negative response to you. If it motivates you then wear it.

I buy jersey's that are odd or have nice coloring or a cool logo. I don't really do full kits. Just the tops. I just got a wheaties jersey last week (yay 20%!) because it was Gotor colors. Best way you get people to honk and wistle while you ride... where your local college's colors!!

It took me a while to buy a pro jersey primarily for this reason; I just didn't see any that caught my eye. My entry into "Prokitdom" was a long-sleeve Phonak jersey about this time last year. Since then I've bought a couple, but yeah, this horse has been kicked and stomped to death. Wear whatchalike. Just make sure it matches

I really like the design of that jersey. I'm trying to find an Aegis jersey. I don't think they're being made any longer. I should have bought one when I had the chance. I'd like to get the socks too.

I wore my Phonak jersey last night doing intervals. It works and feels great.

Plus it's got this neat, little patch on the inside of my sleave that really helps me kick it up a notch. Don't know what's in it ... beer and Jack I guess.

Totally agree with wear whatever you want, in that I don't care at all what you wear, with one exception. Nobody should ever wear a rainbow jersey. You must earn the right for that one. It would be like walking around with a Olympic gold medal replica around your neck.

Personnally, I never wear pro-jerseys because I didn't earn the right by making the team. I have no problem with pro-jerseys from teams that no longer exist as they present a nostalgic view. If you like team gear then Phonak has essentially joined this list as of now and would be a good choice to buy the full kit now, put away, and break out in 5-10 years for normal use.

Jerseys from bike companies, colleges, and the odd ball designs like Ben & Jerrys etc. are nice too.

adrenaline promotions makes them for MANY colleges. I found a Gamecock one on E-bay for $35 whereas at Nashbar it was around $80. From my searches, they're the only company I have found who makes them for the schools. YMMV.

With college jersies be sure to check the actual college first. I know in Purdue's case you can get a team jersey directly from the club/team. It's the same one they wear to events, and the money goes directly to their club/team. Not to mention it is much cheaper than the ones that Velo, or Nashbar have offered.

+1

Your schools cycling teams jersey is going to be a lot hipper than those cheesey college jersey that look more like a football jersey licsensed by the NCAA. Your schools cycling club needs the money more than primalwear or who ever makes those atrosities(sp?).

I tend to agree. But soon I may be changing my opinion of Postal.

HAving ony of the 'latest' team jerseys almost always means you paid full list price. I'd rather spend the money on bike toys or good food. I tend to go with plain black spandex shorts and colorful on sale jerseys. I think real pro jerseys have one big advantage over much of the 'plain wrap' stuff. They are ment to be seen and picked out from a bunch of other guys trying to do the same thing. If you buy with just minimal care that means you also get a jersey that also stands out when riding on the street. (This is not to say there are not some really cool specialty non-team jerseys out there that have the same advantage, but there are many that are not highly visible and they are not on sale nearly as often).

I'd also point out that with jerseys as with other stuff mismatch and other things can come into it. A team jersey up top with blue jeans and sneakers down below will create a pretty strange impression. Also wearing a polka dot (king of the mountians) jersey may make other cyclists think you have delusions. Of course I can wear a kom jersey no problem. When you are over 220 no one can seriously think you have delusions of being a good climber.
