Any idea how to do this with the bar tape?

With two rolls of tape interwoven (wrapping with each for a turn alternately). There was a one-pager in a Bicycling issue a few months ago describing it.

Does that make it twice as thick?

just wrap your bar with neon green tape and be done with it.

Because if you wrap your bars like this you can go faster. Simple rules of physics my friend.

I like it too. I'd do it because I like it. Because I think I'd get to a point in a particularly challenging race where I would drop my head, see the tape, and just smile... and that smile would be enough to spark that second wind.

Has anyone tried this with cork/gel tape? I've only seen it done with cloth.

I've been looking for some for several years (actually since 1990) but have only seen one bike with that color of bar tape.

that yamaguchi is sexy as hell.

Back in the early 80's some of the guys used to do that with that real thin bike ribbon.... but then again that was all that was available....... It was also big down in mexico......On their Benotos. :p

I'm anal enough with plain old black tape put on the traditional way. I'd go insane trying to wrap my bars like that. It would never look perfect enough for me.

HA! - I started riding in El Paso in 1987 and I remember the exact same thing! I used the "Cello" ribbon tape for YEARS! What is it that they say...if you live long enough everything comes back in style..
