Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ok, this is unreal....

I JUST start feeling better over the weekend.....so my girlfriends' son starts getting sick yesterday morning. During a family dinner yesterday afternoon, "genius" (my pet nickname for him....a bit of an oxymoron, really) decides to let go with a nice big cough at the table.....sans hands in front of the mouth. This of course goes right in my face, and now today I'm coming down with his cold.

Back on the Zicam again

Went for a ride today anyway, and in one respect it was a nice 2 week break from the bike, but it's clearly time to get back on the bike now. And of course, if I really get sick.....this'll just really **** things up.

That kid really pisses me off sometimes. Mainly because when it comes to common sense, a doorknob has more than he does.

End rant.

It wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't for the fact he'll be 16 in 5 months.

Jeez, I was hoping you were talking about a 7 year old or something. At least if he was a little kid not having much common sense would be excusable.

I've stayed out of "teaching" for the most part...that's up to his mother and his father; both of which are fairly lazy individuals.

Although I did teach him how to make a tuna fish sandwich the other week.

It's kind of ironic that, in the process of disparaging this kid's intelligence, you betray your own ignorance by misusing a big word. (Hint: you should actually look up the definition of "oxymoron." If you still don't understand why it is the wrong word for your rant, then you should never disparage anyone else's intelligence.)

More to the point: he's a teenager. Give him a break. And as a former single dad who dated a bunch of single moms, I suggest that, if the kid bugs you that much, you should break up with his mom before she breaks up with you. Anyone who ate dinner at my table and sarcastically called my kid "genius" -- male or female -- would be gone before dessert was served.

You think the kid is stupid and the mom (your girlfriend) is lazy? I really wonder why you are there. Sounds like the problem is yours, not theirs.

I think the incubation period for a cold is normally like 3 to 7 days. If you are coming down with a cold today, it wasn't from his cough last night. Of course, that doesn't mean the kid shouldn't get some manners.

First off, I said "a bit of"... it's not a true oxymoron since that requires two words. So maybe pay attention.

Secondly, I'm in my dieting phase, and I get really irritable, really easily. I'm really trying hard to be nice right now.

Third, I'm not going into details, but it's not as simple as deciding one day to just end things and be done with it.

And fourth....I couldn't give a **** less what you would do.

Oh, gee, you're completely right. You did write "a bit of an oxymoron." Too bad that it's still the wrong word, and your defense is lame. (Have you ever heard about the woman who was just "a bit pregnant"?)

And if you log onto a public forum to tell us that your girlfriend is lazy and her son has less common sense than a doorknob, you should not be surprised when someone takes you to task. (Question: would you say these things to your girlfriend and her son? And if not, why would you write them here?)

You're really a self-centered jackass to believe that your precious biking time is more important than being kind (in deeds and in words) to a young kid who still has much to learn.

Coyote2: You are wrong about the definition of oxymoron, get YOUR **** straight before you call somebody out.

from webster's "something (as a concept) that is made up of contradictory or incongruous elements"
as in, calling dumb boy a genius.

Not to get involved in this argument (because I truly am indifferent), but in terms of your definition of "oxymoron", you're being a little misleading, since you took the second half of the Webster's definition. The full definition is "a combination of contradictory or incongruous words (as cruel kindness); broadly : something (as a concept) that is made up of contradictory or incongruous elements". Although there can be such a thing as a "bit of an oxymoron", his example of calling his supposedly dumb son of his girlfriend "genius" isn't one.

Caloric restriction to the point of irritability is not advisable while battling recurring infections. Your nutritional demands while sick skyrocket; do ever wonder why chronically sick people get so skinny? Your body is waging war and you are cutting off the supply lines.

+1, especially for starting a thread about it.

The incubation time for a cold virus is 3-4 days, you didn't get it from him, 'genius'.

"Military intelligence" and "Jumbo shrimp" are examples of oxymorons because the two parts of each phrase are contradictory. There is no second part contradicting "genius". I think you meant sarcasm
