Compact Crankset for DuraAce 7800 BB
I'm looking for a compact crankset that will fit on my existing DA 7800 bottom bracket. I'm going to be doing a 5 day ride with lots of climbing and am worried that I'll have trouble on the climbs with my current standard size double. Can anyone recommend a crankset that won't make me replace my bottom bracket?
Thanks, S. Geralnik |
Shimano R700 compact.

You could also just get a cassette with bigger cogs. Not sure what you're running now.
39/34 = 1.147 27/23 = 1.174 So if you're running a 11-23 now, for example, switching to a 12-27 would make a bigger difference than switching to a compact. |
+1 for the R700. A great crankset that installs easily in the DA BB. The only other adjustment is to lower your FD about an inch.
I really like the combination of the R700 and a 12-27 cassette. More macho folks may scoff, but I like being able to pedal up hills without straining my knees. Now I can spin up most medium steep hills and can get up the steepest without knee pain. Ira |
